The 1965 model year was a high-water mark for Chevrolet. Among other records, they build more than one million copies of the popular Impala. That was across all body styles and included the Super Sport and the new Caprice, then a part of the Impala series. This ’65 Impala Sport Coupe had the same owner from 1966 until its acquisition by the seller. Some cosmetic work has been done, but more is needed. Location in Mooresville, Indiana, this original paint Chevy is available here on eBay where $5,522 has yet to crack the reserve.
This ’65 Impala is the base Sport Coupe (not an SS), so it doesn’t come with bucket seats and some of the other goodies the Super Sport offered. It’s one of 423,000 examples built, so they were seen everywhere when new and aren’t rare sights even 58 years later. The Chevy here was purchased new in Arkansas and had the benefit of a careful owner for a great number of years. Which is why the original exterior finish still looks decent, although it’s starting to fade and is flanked by a couple of small rust spots in the rear quarter panels.
Some recent work has been done on this Chevy, which we assume the seller took care of. That focus was on the interior, where the seats have been recovered along with new carpeting installed after a rust spot in a floor pan was repaired. The windshield was replaced, too, but a new heater core is waiting to be put in.
The base V8 in the 1965 Impala displaced 283 cubic inches, a step up the minimal inline-6. That 195 hp motor is in the seller’s car and comes with a 3-speed manual transmission (remember how to drive one of those?). We’re told the automobile runs and drives great but you will have to replace the muffler if are the winning bidder. Would you like to make room for this Chevy in your garage?
Oh, once there was a car from Arkansas, the air cleaner bandit strikes agin! Sorry, after that Nevada LS Cutlass foolishness, it’s nice to get back to the good ol’ Midwest where greed hasn’t quite filtered in,,yet. Like here, for example, great “MO”( method of operation) They took a ride to Arkansas, picked up this car for cheap when the owner died,, maybe a couple grand, and wants to double their money, which is fine, and not add a zero to the end. It’s a great find, and keeps the hobby alive. Newsflash, we don’t all live in Vegas, ( whoosh, right over their heads)
Again and again, the column shift will hold back potential buyers today, when was the last time you actually saw someone shifting a column shift in traffic? Let’s hear it for the Hoosiers, who still have a shred of decency!
I have recently driven a straight shift Howard! Not recent enough (I would LOVE another), but still pretty recent.
There is one like this but in turquoise that is for sale here in Wisconsin, also a base V-8 car with a 3 on the tree. That guy wants just under 20 grand for it & although clean looking, he states it has some minor rust. That makes this one look like a bargain so far! I also prefer the red, turquoise just ain’t my color…reminds me of the old Sears delivery vans from the early 1970’s. I still refer to that color as “Sears green”.
I would think the aircleaner was removed for the photo, and not jump to the conclusion it’s missing. Whatever.
My mom had a new Bel Air in 1975, and it was the first car I remember thinking was cool. When I’m done with my ’58 I would like to look for one of these.
A switch of wheels would do wonders on this.
8″ Rallys would do the trick !
My first car purchased new off the showroom floor was a 1965 Impala SS white with a black vinyl top, white interior, bucket seats up front with a 396 (got the auto transmission though because my insurance guy didn’t want to insure a standard transmission). I don’t have that car any longer (wish I did), but I do drive a 5 speed Honda (and it is now 27 years old). I have driven a column shift Chevy back in the day though.
I had 1965 chevy 396 4speed red with black interior know black 1966 Impala ss black with white int
I like it. 283, three on the three, red on red, perfect. I’d leave the wheels just like they are. Up to $10,500 now. With 11 hours left in the auction I believe it will take near 20K to win. Right now it’s a good deal. If this was near me I’d be paying a visit.
I see a BBC and a 4 speed in this cars future…
Bidding ended @ $12,201 not sold. As it is about $16,000 would be top money for it. I think a good body man could bring the paint back to a pretty good look. Fix the 2 small rust spots and enjoy the car. that 283 with a 2 barrel will get pretty good mileage on the highway, around 20 to 22 keeping it around 60-65 M.P.H. Make a nice comfortable long-distance cruiser.
Nice car.
Of the 2 cars my dad had in the garage for me to learn on 1 was a straight 6, 3 on the tree, plain Jane, green rubber matted ‘70 falcon. Later I had a 60 bel air 4dr a w/3 on the tree. Both were powered by inline 6’s. Never had a problem with either. I’d do again in a flash. Especially with a little v-8 under the hood for motivation.
Nice car.
1965 Impala ? My first car
