Ford introduced its F-Series of trucks after World War II and has dominated the pickup market ever since. The fourth generation arrived in 1961 and would add to the trucks’ popularity. The seller has owned this 1964 edition of the F-100 for the past eight years and it has a built 351 cubic inch V8 and other modern parts, but the cosmetic parts remain. Located in Franklin, Indiana, this stalled project is available here on eBay where the current bid is $5,200, the reserve is unmet, and the Buy It Now price is $8,000.
Though the seller’s truck is not one, Ford made one big mistake when it developed a unibody version of the F-Series truck in 1961. As an integrated body (instead of a separate cab and bed), there was no way for it to flex with changes in the payload. That led to stories that the doors would jam open or shut in some circumstances. That design was gone two years later, and the more traditional configuration was applied. These trucks came with either I-6 or V8 engines and the VIN indicates this pickup once had a 292 cubic inch 8-cylinder with a 2-barrel carburetor.
When the seller bought this truck in Arizona in 2016, it already had the 351 engine. We’re told it’s been “freshened up” but hasn’t been run since then. It had a 3-speed manual transmission which has been replaced with a C6 automatic. And a set of Dakota digital gauges and new floor coverings will come with the truck as do an extra set of front fenders, though they shouldn’t be needed. The wiring will need attention and a new master brake cylinder installed since the truck was converted to front disc brakes.
The body looks good and may be ready for prep work before new red paint can be laid on. The truck has new wheels and tires, so it should be ready to roll when the rest of the work has been completed. As long as “original” isn’t a necessity, this old pickup could really be dressed up for cruising or outings to Cars & Coffee. But I wouldn’t turn it into a regular workhorse again.
Looks like an amateur paint job has already been put on this truck. Could be nice when finished properly. A little more power never hurt anyone.
Best truck ever made great body stile 8k is not bad price for a hands on guy
Needs three pedals on the floor.
The story seems to imply (at least to me) that the Styleside was the only offering in1961-’63; not so. Flareside, with the old bed with separate fenders (from ’53?) was available, and F-350 and heavier duty, as well as 4WD, used the 1957-60 separate bed.
61-63 F100s were also available with the 57-60 styleside bed, standard with 4WD
