Retro Mods: 1967 Chevrolet Camaro

From the rear, this 1967 Chevrolet Camaro shows some serious attitude. It has received some body modifications, and these make an already tough car look even tougher. If the next owner is more concerned with originality, there is no reason why these changes couldn’t be reversed. There are some other things to consider with this classic, so let’s unpack it and see what is what. The Camaro is located in Simi Valley, California, and has been listed for sale here on eBay. Bidding has now reached $13,200, and the reserve has been met.

The owner refers to the body modifications that have been made to this Camaro as being very 1970s in style. I would have to agree with him on that, although some of these did carry over on cars into the 1980s. The fenders all now feature steel flares, which is essential to squeeze enormous tires under the vehicle. We’re talking about the fronts being 10″ wide, while the rears are 12s. That is some serious rubber on the road and should bless the Camaro with loads of grip. The wheels that the Camaro wears are looking dirty and stained, but I think that they would restore okay. As well as the flares, the rear spoiler has been molded into the body. I can see evidence of minor cracking in both this installation, as well as in the paint itself. It has a nice shine, but I suspect that a repaint is on the cards. Otherwise, the panels seem to be straight, and there are no apparent signs of significant rust issues. The vehicle also features an RS grille and a Z/28 hood. Both of these items appear to be in good condition, as does the glass.

Given the changes that have been made to the Camaro’s exterior, the interior is remarkably original. The door trims, seat covers, and the headliner are all new. There are no cracks on the dash pad, but the dash itself is partially dismantled. It will need to be reassembled, and the buyer will have the choice of refitting the factory radio or installing the aftermarket stereo that is included in the sale. If the buyer retains the Camaro in mostly unchanged form, they are going to find it a relatively comfortable beast to live with. As well as factory air conditioning, it features power windows and a Grant wooden wheel. Also included is a new tachometer in its box, along with new seals and sundry other items.

You knew that this was all too good to be true. Now we get to the bad news. This Camaro doesn’t come with an engine or transmission. It started life with a six under the hood, but it has obviously received an upgrade at some point. However, those items are now long gone. With no engine or transmission, this is now a mechanical blank canvas for the next owner. There’s nothing quite like being able to create the Camaro of your dreams without the anguish that goes with destroying an original classic. What the buyer will get is a 12-bolt 4.56 rear end, Wilwood disc brakes, a new booster, heavy-duty rear springs, front and back 1″ sway bars, and a 4-core radiator. The basics are there for someone to slot something pretty potent under the hood, and finish up with a car that goes, stops, and handles.

The exterior upgrades that this 1967 Camaro has received are not going to be to everyone’s taste. The good thing is that with the ready availability of parts, reversing these changes would seem to be relatively easy. The fact that it comes without an engine or transmission is not a deal-breaker, because it allows scope for the buyer to flex their imagination. That begs the question; would you reverse the body mods, or leave it as-is? As much as I love spotless originality, I would be tempted to leave it untouched. It looks like a car with some serious attitude, and there’s no doubt that it would attract plenty of attention. That works for me.

    Holy cow why is rhis thing going for this kind of money?!?! 3 years ago I sold my 68 Camaro with a straight 6, 250 ci motor that was significantly warmed up to a health 250 hp, 275 ft-lbs. It won first place in mild modified at Camaro Nationals in 2015 (I believe that was the year). It had an Offy intake, Holy 4bbl, Langdon headers, a cam, HEI, 3 core radiator with electric fan, 2004r trans with shift kit, perfect paint, no rush or cracks, perfect interior with subtle modifications including a custom autosound stereo, power disc brakes, power steering, sound deadening throughout the interior, nice, subtle 17″ wheels with 255’s and 225’s, all new suspension components, new body bushings, and fully detailed engine bay.

    Sold it for 15k on eBay.

      I like what you did with that ’68 of yours. It would be fun to own, drive, maintain. The final selling price of 15k should have made both seller and buyer happy.

      This one is bid to 15.2k right now with 26 hours left in the auction. But we all know it may not sell.

    I prefer the 69 camaro bucket seats. This will be a sweet ride when completed . The price is high but the body looks rustless making a great start 👍👀

    Seeing that the car has strayed from stock and the gas cap filler panel is blanked off, I wonder how a third (centered) tail light would look between the originals.
    Hopefully by now folks have realized that when you bond/blend large fiberglass flairs, spoilers, etc to a steel body, cracks are inevitable sooner rather than later. It’s a dissimilar material, expansion, contraction thing.

    If the potential new owner wants to reverse the exterior mods go look elsewhere. Not for you.
    Got to like that wide aggressive stance from every angle, but from the back it’s an ego trip, sweaty palms kind a thing. Reminds me just a little of the Sonoco Z/28 or in that realm,,,..big tires all 4 corners, racy raunchy righteous and that’s with no motor growling away or the sound of straight cut gears!
    Very high winding smallblock thru peaky exhaust, 5 speed but has to have gear whine,, have a blast.
