Roller With Solid Frame: 1968 Dodge Charger Project

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Although this 1968 Dodge Charger isn’t very aesthetically pleasing to look at in its current state, this one actually seems fairly solid in the structural department, where it counts the most in B-Body projects.  That’s not to say that this Mopar doesn’t need a full restoration, but considering the large amount of rust many second-generation Charger projects are plagued with, this one appears to be at a reasonably decent starting point in comparison.  This 1968 Dodge Charger is in De Soto, Kansas, and can be found here on eBay, with the bid of $7,100 not enough for this one to exchange hands yet, as that amount is short of the reserve.

Perfect is a word I prefer being used sparingly in vintage auto listings, but that’s how the seller describes the frame here, from front to back.  While they’re weathered and showing some surface rust, I have to agree that the rails appear mostly structurally sound, so hopefully, little more than cosmetic attention will be required for the frame itself.

The owner doesn’t provide much of a background here, but it takes decades in the sun to develop a patina like some of these panels here are showing, especially on the driver’s side, so this one hasn’t spent too much time sitting in garages.  Both front fenders will likely need to be replaced, but the driver’s quarter is said to need nothing in the way of straightening, although the opposite side will either need repair or replacement.  Don’t get prematurely attached to those nice wheels and tires either, as they will be gone after the sale, with this Charger wearing steel wheels with tires only claimed to hold air when the future owner takes possession.

This one’s also a roller, with the engine and transmission long gone, although a 383 block will be included.  Some good news is how well-preserved things appear in the bay, so it’s possible that the area under the hood isn’t far from ready to accept whatever the next caretaker decides to install here.  There’s no additional information on the 383 provided, or what this Charger was originally equipped with, but I might have to consider a 440 instead.

There aren’t many positives to report regarding the dash, as just about all of the components have been removed, and the pad needs replacement.  The buckets are still present, plus the back seat is included, with all of the springs and frames stated to be in good shape, so hopefully, just a simple recovering will be all that’s needed.  While this one will take extensive work before it’s ready to return to the road, the overall integrity of the frame is a big plus, and I’ve seen far worse starting points on numerous B-Bodies in the past.  Is this 1968 Dodge Charger worthy of all the resources that will be required here?

A potential Dodge project for sale in the town of De Soto..sounds like a great start.
Lots of time and money for this one but looks far better than some we’ve seen on CraigFace etc at a decent beginning price.
A classic Charger when finished well.

Just another rolling Dodge with some new wheels and tires that don’t come with the sale. I think we have seen worse looking body’s that are rusted more. This one had A/C.
