In high school, my older brother had a 1979 Chevrolet El Camino Conquista. Between the moan of the secondaries on that Rochester four-barrel carburetor and winning a few races out on an old less-traveled blacktop, it didn’t take long for us to fall in love with these rather odd car/truck creatures. Soon afterward we learned of a special edition offered during that time – the Royal Knight. With under 3,000 units produced from 1979 to 1983 these cars a little harder to come by (even rarer is the “Black Knight” produced only in 1978). That’s why I was surprised to find this Royal Knight here on Craigslist in Yukon, Oklahoma. But the seller is listing more than just a special edition El Camino…
In addition to the Royal Knight, there are also 12 El Caminos ranging from 1964 on up in various conditions and two Corvettes. The ad has been posted by a friend of the seller and states that there are El Camino parts galore. Looking through the pictures it looks like the Corvettes listed could use a little love. The 1973 Vette is stated to have a lot of new parts and is listed for $12,500 while 1979 is said to be in good condition and has a $10,000 asking price.
It’s hard to tell if these two would be worth the asking prices, but if the Royal Knight is as good as pictured then the $5,000 price probably isn’t out of line. When you find these rarer versions of the Elky they aren’t commanding crazy money, but that doesn’t mean that they won’t be sooner rather than later. Not much detail is given here, but a $5,000 price tag indicates that the seller may know what they have.
One benefit to working with this seller would be that if parts are needed there would most likely be something available on site. The Royal Knight trim package was really nothing more than some additions to the Super Sport models, but there is something really unique about them. This listing leaves a lot of questions… is the Royal Knight’s asking price reasonable? What might the market look like in the next decade? And what about the other El Caminos and Corvettes… is there anything worth investigating there?
Myself I would rather have the El Camino than the Corvettes. It probably rides better and I can throw chairs and a cooler in the back to use at the local dragstrip.
El Camino special editions don’t bring big money because most of them were sticker packages.
It is hard to get excited over stickers you are going to have to replace anyway.
Hmm lil info listed here on all .
Mentions 1964 and up elcamino but we see two pictures? The Vettes show little also ..
I guess they are mainly local sale when you drive over and crawl under with only a side shot or two which just don’t cut it.
I am sure local flipper folks have a good chance to get low pricing and then EBay up with more details .
“Royal Knight” sounds like a good place for a cheeseburger, fries and a beer.
Or a slawburger,fries and a bottle of ‘ski….oh, wait..that’s Dumas’ place. NM
Market for el caminos is huge glad you people don’t like them every one I flip makes good money the GMCs bring more and are fewer left. This one looks complete untouched and original, that makes them sell,headers,hi-rise intake, edelbrock carbs really hurt the value, this one is close enough to me to investigate more closely,i believe I will.
This might be Bethany Kars in Calumet OK. They specialize in ElCams
The Royal Knight is considered very desirable in the El Camino world- not many still around. If this has little rust and doesn’t need full restoration, 5K is a steal. My ’83 Conquista is much more common, but mine is unmolested- still bone stock.
Mine is far from stock and was a bit more than 5K. It’s an ’87 base model originally.
I would prefer the 87 w TBI I’m tired of carbs. In 87 I almost bought a 4 speed SS El Camino.
