As covered on this site before, there are frequently Stags for sale. However, they aren’t manual transmission, almost rust-free, running ones up for sale often like this one here on eBay at no reserve! It’s been donated to a charity that is selling it on as-is. It’s located in Ventura, California, and bidding is currently at only $1,200! It looks like someone has put a 4-barrel conversion onto the stock Stag V8, which I’ve heard isn’t a bad thing (although I’m one of the few British car folks around that likes the original Strombergs). The interior is serviceable, although the driver’s seat needs a little work, and even the padded dash and wood don’t look too bad. If it were close to me, I’d be bidding! No, it’s not a perfect car, but I’d love to drive it while I worked on it a little. How about you?

Running 1971 Triumph Stag At No Reserve

I believe the carb is a 2v Holley…center hung float with only one fuel inlet.
You’re not the only British car fan that likes well tuned SUs. I recently purchased a beautiful ’70 MGB. I passed on many of them that had the Weber DGV conversion. Never did like that carb. I had one on a Spitfire, and had more problems than I could count on both hands! Give me a pair of SUs any day! One of the most simplest and easy to work on carbs made, once you spend a little time and effort learning about them.
The electrical system has had some “modifications” to make it work. The pictures are on the eBay ad if you scroll down.
@Kenneth — thanks for the expertise! I freely admit I don’t know domestic carbs.
@Doug — yup, give me Strombergs or SU’s…I speak that language.
@George — I did notice that…honestly, if it runs now I can deal with that over time by tracing wires. I do wonder what the switches do! I can’t deal with the 3,000 mile distance away, though.
I just love the stags. Coming from the UK I knew somebody who had one and just loved the look of these cars and also the triumph 2000 station wagon. Both nice looking cars and yes would prefer the su’s.
