“This is one of those cars that, the more you look at, it the more you smile,” says the owner. It’s a 1962 Cadillac Series 62 Coupe, under the current ownership for three years. It’s here on eBay in Massapequa, New York (Long Island) with a $17,500 Buy It Now.
We’re told that the “vehicle runs great and is mainly used for car shows.” The V-8 engine was rebuilt. It has 87,000 miles on the clock, and in those days engines started to get tired after 60,000.
We’re told the floorboards and trunk are 100 percent rust-free. The body does look straight, though both the hood and trunk are either very dulled or in primer. There is some weather-related corrosion on the taillights. So maybe it went to car shows and didn’t win first prize.
The best thing about this Cadillac is the cloth interior, which looks almost mint, front and rear. It’s all there except the passenger-side door panel—though the driver’s side looks great. Maybe it’s sitting around somewhere. The owner again: “If you’ve been looking for the right one this is the car for you.”
Cadillac restyled its cars annually in this era. This is the seventh generation of the Series 62, introduced the previous year in 1961. There was a new grille and front pillars that slanted forward. For ’62, the grille was flattened out with a thicker horizontal center bar. The front bumper was enlarged and got rectangular parking lamps.
Cadillacs came loaded, with power steering and brakes, auto transmission, and reverse lights. The V8 got a four-barrel setup, and the air suspension was ditched. But if you liked the ’61, you’ll probably like the ’62 as well—it’s a bit quieter (added insulation on the floor), with a refined ride. A total of 134,572 Series 62s were sold that year.
The Series 62 seen here is a running and driving car that just needs minor cosmetics. It will make someone a great Sunday cruiser and provide an excuse to go to the Cars and Coffee events.

Front seat redone?
If I was a few years younger I could buy this 62 Cadillac Series 62 as a 62 year old. Triple 62. Now if I was 60 currently and bought it when it was 62 years old that would be a Quad 62. Who’da thunk?
Needs paint, right door shows evidence of past damage/repair. (IMO) VERY optimistically priced!!

If that car was in a “car show” I am the Prince of Wales. Where is the rest of the a/c? I see dash vents but no compressor.
AC compressor and brackets are MIA. Putting all that back either oem or aftermarket is expensive. Other than that, the panels look fairly straight and rust free. Price may be a bit high with all that said. Compared to what price? Good find.
I sold mine for junk, kept the tires. That was 1974. Who knew?
I keep reading that engines of this vintage wore out by 60,000 miles. I don’t think so. Due to odometers being set back regularly by not only used car dealers but private parties also, 60,000 miles bore no resemblance to the true distances covered. I was a traveling salesman then, and regularly put in excess of 100K miles with no problems. My father likewise.
