Rust Free 1991 Ford LTD Crown Victoria LX

Having grown up in the Midwest with snow for half the year, hearing the term “rust-free” related to a vehicle is something we rarely knew, other than for new vehicles. Arizona is known for its rust-free vehicles, such as this 1991 Ford LTD Crown Victoria LX wagon. This reportedly solid long roof can be found here on eBay in Midlothian, Virginia, the current bid is $5,300, and the reserve hasn’t been met.

My first task would be putting a nice set of white walls on this beautiful car. In the spirit of full disclosure: this Crown Vic wagon isn’t from Arizona and it hasn’t spent its entire life there. The seller says that they’re the fourth owner and this car is originally from Peoria, Illinois, but wasn’t used year-round and was garaged in Florida and Illinois. Then it moved to Arizona where it spent the next 23 years. The third owner bought it in 2017 and the fourth owner, the seller, bought it in 2020 and brought it to Virginia.

So, this car hasn’t been a lifelong Arizona vehicle and it may have been driven in the snow, we don’t know. The underside sure looks solid. They include a detailed report of ownership in the description. As is often the case with eBay auctions, this one “sold” but due to scam bids, it was never finalized so now it’s for sale again. How and why are so many scammers out there in the world?! COME ON! That’s a bit of fake drama, but not really fake, I’m just so exasperated and disappointed.

The Oxford White paint on most of the car “looks almost new”, according to the seller, but they mention some clearcoat issues, maybe from having lived in sunny Arizona for a couple of decades. The leather in front is starting to show its age, again maybe due to the Arizona stint, or just from age. The back seat leather looks like new and the huge rear cargo area looks great. Hidden under that massive storage spot are a couple of vinyl seats for the adventurous.

This is Ford’s 5.0-liter OHV V8, which would have had 150 horsepower. The seller “replaced the fuel pump and relay, alternator, battery, coil, spare tire, thermostat, timing chain and the pneumatic parking brake release valve.  I also had the air bag and the engine control modules rebuilt.” It reportedly works great and overall this looks like a nice example. How much would you pay for this Crown Vic wagon?

Had a 91 four door and boy do i miss it. Save for usual maintenance like brakes, oil changes and ignition it was always reliable and never failed to start even at sub zero temps here in Quebec. Bought it at about 160000 km’s and kept it a nudge over five years and traded at 250000. The only thing bad that ever happened was the timing chains started to slap at about 230000 km’s and had that done. Took about a week because of a b/o gasket. Loved it and miss it

I miss my Ford wagons too Bob. A 74 and a 79. Wonderful, beautiful, practical and tough as nails. Used them to shuttle the kids all over, tow the campers or car trailers and looked good and ran well doing it.

Probably a dual row timing chain!

Spent a good portion of my childhood riding around in a station wagon. Always a Ford, or Mercury, and always relegated to the way back jump seats as there were 5 kids in the family. I still have a soft spot for these cars, but owning one doesn’t make sense for me with how my life is structured. I rely on my Ford pickup trucks solely, but enjoy seeing these old wagons pop up on this site.

Okay, I love Scottys submissions more than most, but his “winter half the year”, just isn’t so. Maybe more like 1/3 the year, but his rust depictions are spot on. Rust was something we just put up with ( I still say salt a plot to sell new cars) and cars like this, daily use, family truckster types, saw it all. Seldom washed or maintained, they needed replacement, and most remaining examples were relegated to the demo derby, with great results, I might add. Due to the lack of plausible offerings today, I think you will see an increase of older wagons like this on our roads. Oh, I’d love to gloat, but history in cars tends to repeat itself, and this pickup truck/SUV fad will fade, making these popular again, you’ll see. “All new for 2027, the atomic powered Ford 9 passenger station wagon,,,at your Ford dealers today”.

    Perception is the word
I gladly rode around with my 2007 loaded explorer when i was still working but
Wouldn’t want to with this ! Its the same size and same inside space but i simply love the AWD ( thank you eagle amc )
Must be the height ! And the fact that no snow can stop it in montreal winters …

Forget today’s SUVs. This was way to go back in the day, and we made it work.
