Some enthusiasts won’t entertain a project build, finding the prospect of rust repairs daunting. However, that isn’t a consideration with this 1963 Austin-Healy 3000 Mk II. The seller states it is rust-free, and their images appear to support that claim. It is an essentially complete vehicle that could be a rewarding restoration project, especially if the buyer plans a hands-on approach. The seller has listed the Healey here on eBay in Loomis, California. They set their BIN at $15,500 with the option to make an offer.

The Austin-Healey 3000 debuted in 1959 as a successor to the 100-6. The company released an updated Mk II version in 1961, while this BJ7 Sports Convertible variant left the Abingdon factory in 1963. Determining this classic’s original paint color is seemingly impossible, because so many surfaces carry different shades of Blue and Green. The existing Brown doesn’t help the car’s cause, which will probably motivate the new owner to strip the panels and start from scratch. Dings and dents are very minor, but this Healey’s greatest strength is its rust-free status. Jensen Motors, the company contracted to build the bodies, has never had a strong reputation for corrosion-prevention strategies. However, the fact that this Mk II has survived in a structurally sound state suggests they got this one right on the day. The top frame is present, the wire wheels are in good condition, and the bright trim visible in the image gallery generally looks acceptable for a driver-grade build.

Powering the 3000 is a 2,912cc BMC C-Series six-cylinder engine, which inhales deeply through a pair of SU carburetors. The company boldly boasted that not only did the motor produce a very healthy 136hp and 167 ft/lbs of torque, but it could also comfortably propel the Healey beyond 100mph. This car features a four-speed manual transmission, with the first owner opting not to order the optional overdrive. The seller states that this Healey has a genuine 23,101 miles on the clock, although their failure to mention verifying evidence means we must take the claim at face value. The motor doesn’t run, and I suspect it hasn’t for many years. Therefore, it would be wise for the buyer to set aside extra cash in case anything requires a rebuild.

Apart from its rust-free status, one of this Healey’s greatest strengths could be its interior. Don’t be fooled by this photo, because other listing images suggest it is virtually complete. The visible upholstered items are in good condition and suitable for reuse in a driver-grade build. The buyer will probably need to source a few additional items, but with organizations like Moss Motors carrying huge inventories, you can be sure that one of those companies will have everything the new owner needs to complete the interior reassembly.

Traditional British sports cars don’t appeal to everyone, but I can’t think of a single classic that could achieve that feat. However, the engineering typically used in their design and construction makes them ideal for enthusiasts who not only wish to be hands-on during their restoration but also during their long-term servicing and maintenance. This 1963 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk II offers that opportunity, and with spotless examples consistently selling for well over $30,000, the buyer could complete the work while maintaining the car’s financial viability. That makes this Healey worth more than a passing glance.

It has the overdrive, visible in the interior photo are the overdrive as well as the switch on the dash. I have never seen a BJ7 without overdrive. Original colour seems to be iceblue, as visible on the tunnel and that would fit the blue interior.
The more I looked at the engine the more I see 15K or more to rebuild it. Wouldn’t lay out any 15K on this one.
I’m confused I have a membership, if I see a car I’m interested in how do I get in touch with the seller. What steps do I take.
Ok 63 years old, but how does a car get in that shape in only 23k miles.
And Bob is right, the price is high.
I’m definitely interested in this old Healey. How do I proceed?
