Chevrolet sold more than 1.5 million cars in 1957 – and they may be the most-sought-after of the “Tri-Five” Chevies today. The Sport Coupe is at the top of the list, along with the convertible and Nomad Sport Wagon. This ’57 Bel Air appears to have been sitting outside for ages and has significant rust and no drivetrain. Located in Joshua, Texas, this project or donor is available here on eBay for $2,850 OBO.

According to this Chevy’s cowl tag, it left the factory wearing a combination of India Ivory over Colonial Cream paint. Some of that remains today when not covered over by corrosion. It was also assembled with a V8 engine that is long gone, along with the transmission. That would have been either a 265 or 283 CI motor, and the listing mentions a manual shifter. But elsewhere in the ad, the seller also references a 350 and an automatic. Since the area under the hood is empty, none of that may matter now.

The amount of rust will probably lead you to either restore the Chevy or find usable stuff that can be applied to another Sport Coupe project. The problem areas include the floor pans, trunk, front end, and exterior panels have probably been serviced before (Bondo is present). We’re told the chrome is good, including what’s already been pulled off the car.

Besides the drivetrain, this Chevrolet has been liberated from its steering column, so getting it to turn will be a challenge. The interior appears to have previously been redone, and it will need another rework. If you pulled the trigger on this purchase, what would you do with it – parts or restoration (restomod?)? Also, there is no title. Could this simply be a candidate for the crusher?

Rat Rod.
I don’t know how the frame looks but the body looks like mostly surface rust at least the left rear quarter looks solid. At the very least it’s got some chrome and glass and possibly some panels you could use. A $1000 might be a better price.
Might be a couple of stainless pieces left but other than that she’s been picked clean. I doubt the bumpers are even worth pulling. Anyone building one wouldn’t want the glass as you can get that and pretty much everything else aftermarket.
Can this be resurrected? I think not. Glory days, gone by.
If the seats are in it, I’d offer 750 for both. They can keep the rest of it.
Rust in peace!!
How do these things even happen!!!
One for DD speedshop
That 57 could easily be put back on the road as a going to town rig for 4k or less you just need to source the used parts and be willing to do a little work and before you ask yes I have done it
Finally, a fellow ’57 in worse shape than me.
That is almost funny
How can anyone let this go that badly.
Another chicken coop!
