Same Family Project: 1966 Chevrolet Biscayne

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

From 1959 to 1972, the Biscayne was Chevrolet’s entry-level full-size car (the Del Ray had that distinction in 1958). If you were looking for roomy but stark transportation, the Biscayne was a good choice, and most were purchased with few extras. This 1966 2-door sedan reads like a one-family car that may have been used by multiple family members over the past 60 years. It needs work and has plenty of patina for those so inclined. Located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, this fixer-upper is available here on eBay for $9,999.

This vehicle is described as “Aunt Mae’s” car, but it been sitting long enough for the tires to have gone bad. The mileage is 49,000, and we’re told they’re actual, so maybe this automobile was primarily a grocery getter over the decades. The only options from the factory may have been an automatic transmission (2-speed Powerglide) and power steering. A 250 cubic inch inline-6 sits under the hood, the first year that upgrade to the 230 would be offered.

The photos are few and don’t show the whole car. This car doesn’t appear to be rusty, but it has a small crunch in the driver’s side front fender. That may have led to the radiator brace being bent, or at least that’s what it looks like in one of the photos. The condition of the interior is a mystery, but if the exterior had been weathered by the Sun, the seats may have met that same fate.

Surviving paperwork shows the car was purchased new at Ed Black Chevrolet, which was a local dealer back in the day. So, it’s possible this car has not known what any of the other 49 states look like. The seller says the Chevy will likely need a new master brake cylinder, along with the rubber donuts at all four corners. If you’re looking for a 100% original car to restore, would this bare bones Chevy fit your needs? BTW, thanks, Mitchell G., for the tip!

Grandma had a car like this, she had more dents in it than this one, she said she’d hit some ice on the way home from the bar.

Desirable cars, this one is pricey for its condition. Even if the mileage claim is true, does it really matter, you are realistically paying for a shell that needs everything. Closer to half the asking price is more realistic. The car would be easier to sell if the ad had more and better description and focused on the car itself.

No hay in well would I give ten kay for this. I like these stripper models mainly because of the six-banger but something as far gone as this poor thing appears to be would maybe net the seller 3-4 thousand tops. “Hey Buddy, this isn’t a rusted out late 60s Charger”

I feel like it’s worth the money if the frame is reasonably solid. I love those 60s cars! All of them! The interiors were so cool, the steering wheel colors, just cool! Id make or keep this car white, simple wheelcovers nothing fancy but the 6 cylinder would have to go in favor of at least 250 hp fun driver

it’s neat but not 10k worth of neat even if Aunt Mae owned it. 3k at the most. should have never let it get to this point if they want that kind of money

My Grand dad had one very similar to this the only difference i can see is the automatic transmission granddad had a three speed on the column. $9999 does seem to be a little much

Well I have almost the exact same car here for sale, except mine WAS a 327 with factory A/C and 2 speed wipers. Solid Montana car, but one rust spot in very back bottom of rear 1/4 panel. A rare few I heard actually came with a 427.

Any RPO engine could be ordered in that car. There were 2 RPO 427s available in 66.
      L36 – 427 CI 390 hp

      L72 – 427 CI 425 up
You are correct as to the rarity. For this to happen someone would have to click one of those codes on a cheapest available full size sedan. It happened but not very often.
