Samurai Survivor: 1990 Suzuki Samurai EFI

If you’re looking for a clean, mostly original Suzuki Samurai that’s been garage kept (and never been off road) in its 32 years, then look no further. The seller has been into Suzuki’s since the 90’s and says he knows a good one when he sees one. This Samurai was purchased new by the original owner in Lansing, Michigan and stored at their winter home in Florida before moving to Arizona in 2004. The seller’s neighbor bought the Samurai in 2015 but is getting up in years, so the seller bought it from his neighbor with plans of keeping this little Suzuki for himself. Unfortunately, some unexpected house repair expenses is causing the seller to part with this well-cared-for Suzuki. This Samurai survivor is located in Tucson, Arizona and for sale here on eBay. Bidding has been brisk with 45 bids as of this writing, but the current $10,700 bid hasn’t met the seller’s reserve.

Viewing the photos (obviously taken against an awesome Arizona background), the original white paint appears shiny and very presentable. The seller says there’s zero rust and I don’t see any or any signs of dents, bumps, or abuse. It’s in remarkable condition. He also says the Suzuki has a new Smittybilt top and newer tires with very few miles.

Mechanically, the only thing mentioned by the seller that needs attention is the air conditioner. It was apparently working last year but isn’t blowing ice cold and needs at least a charge. The only modifications mentioned are the factory horn was replaced with a louder one (but the original horn comes with it) and a previous owner “put a cut-off switch hidden on the car to prevent theft, but it was done very tastefully.”

Inside, the driver’s seat bottom is about the only thing showing its age. It’s in rough shape and needs replacing, but the rest of the brown and beige interior looks nearly perfect, including the original brown carpet. The seller also shares that “one seam is separating at the drivers right shoulder bolster which could be restitched, but the original Clarion stereo still sounds great, every bulb and switch still works including the overhead light and door buzzer, and the roll bar padding looks almost new!”

The engine bay is as clean and tidy as the rest of this little white Samurai. Nothing is shared about any rebuilds, the odometer is listed at 124,760, and the seller says, “the 1.3 L EFI engine just purrs and everything works. The 4WD works as it should, but this thing has never been off road, and it shows.” The seller also added that the Samurai comes with a factory bra with the Samurai name embossed  on it. He’s not sure if it was a dealer purchase, but it’s been with the Samurai since the original owner and would protect the front of the Samurai if you used it as a tow vehicle.

In closing, the seller shares that he has all the owner’s manuals, some receipts of repairs from the previous two owners, the original sales contract and window sticker, and says “You can fly in and drive it home as well, as it runs great.” This certainly looks like a clean survivor that’s spent more time in a garage than out in the great outdoors given its overall condition. How would this survivor look in your garage?

  1. Connecticut mark

Would this have a timing belt and need to be done at least once already? Otherwise great looking 4×4. In Connecticut there would be nothing left of it 20 years ago, rusted away!

These are very popular in the Latino community, there are some in my area that are totally restored, frame off, with modern engines and big tires. This will sell!

My 30 foot motorhome was faster than this turtle
As a young security technician in montreal, canada , this was great for service calls on storm days as you could park it anywhere but amenities were lacking
I would not buy another one but would certainly look at the sidekick as it really was an upgrade to this chariot

The prices of these have changed rather dramatically of late. Hard to believe I had an original 87 Samurai, with 62000 miles, still with original tires, no rust, no dents and was happy to get $2400 for it in 2009. No doubt that car was not going over 60 unless down hill and behind a semi. I was pulled over for doing 55 in a 45 in FL and I simply asked the officer, do you really think this thing can do 55? He said now and gave me a warning. The soft tops are a lot better at stability than the hard tops. I can tell this one is a newer version, the seats and interior are far better than what came in mine. But they are very fun, just don’t ever try to drive it more than 30 miles one way, it will shake you up.
