In 1955, Chevrolet introduced the Task Force series, which replaced the Advanced Design commercial vehicles that had been in production since 1947. The new series included a raft of changes, including a more modernized body style. These have now become a firm favorite amongst restorers, and for people seeking a base for a custom or rat rod project. With a BIN price of $6,000, or the option to make an offer, this 1955 model looks like a possible candidate for any of these pathways. Located in El Centro, California, you will find the Pickup listed for sale here on eBay.
The owner of the Pickup doesn’t give us a huge amount of information, but we’ll just need to work with what we’ve got. It appears that the vehicle has undergone some custom work at some point in the past, as the paint color and wheels certainly aren’t original. The owner doesn’t mention the state of the frame, but the general state of the body looks quite encouraging. The obviously vulnerable areas of the vehicle such as the corners of the cab look to be quite solid. There may be some rust in the rockers, but it really is hard to be sure. The vast majority of the external trim is also present, and it appears to be in good condition, and while the majority of the glass looks good, there does appear to be a crack in the windshield.
The interior of the Chevy is a chaotic mess, but the visible upholstery tends to also indicate that the interior trim has been updated at some point in the vehicle’s past. The listing also shows that the Pickup has been fitted with air conditioning, although this didn’t become a factory option on these until 1958. It would be interesting to get a really good look at the interior, as the trim and upholstery might be able to be salvaged. There are also no photos of the engine, but we know that it is a 253ci 6-cylinder engine, which is backed by a manual transmission in this 4-wheel-drive pickup. The owner states that he also has a 350ci engine available that he can include as a package at a very reasonable cost. This might be an option that is worth serious consideration, depending on the new owner’s ultimate goal for the vehicle.
When it comes to pickups that we’ve recently seen at Barn Finds, this Chevrolet 3100 walks a real middle ground. It isn’t the nicest one that we’ve seen, but it is by no means the worst either. It will need some work, and there are quite a few question marks hovering over the state of the floors and the frame. However, the owner has ensured that he can be contacted to answer any questions, so that’s a huge positive. This is a vehicle that seems to have some pretty decent potential locked away inside it. So, if you bought it, what would be your plans?
It would be nice to see something like this restored to a bone-stock runabout that can be used as well as shown. Lots of potential. 4×4? Are you sure? I see the photo of the right front shows a trim hub for a deluxe wheel but if this was original it would be a NAPCO conversion unless someone slid a donor chassis underneath. From the angles it just doesn’t look like a 4×4 to me. I otherwise like what I see…
Yes too low for these years to be a 4×4
El Centro is farm country…….flat, hot as hell in the summer.
I’d say this has been sitting a long while. I’ll skip my usual jeremiad on the seller not taking any trouble to set the vehicle up for a proper set of pictures, as in empty all the crp out of the bed and interior.
I dont think thats a hub in the right wheel pix..same rusted appearing thing in the rear wheel too .
I think its priced waaaaaaaay optimistically, but then I’m picky
It is poorly marketed, and I have doubts about the 4×4 specs as well, but based on the crappy pix, who knows? Definitely a FPI needed. (no engine compartment pix either)
However it IS BIN -OR- Make an offer! So anything is possible.
