Shed Find: 1964 Jaguar Mk. II

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

I always like seeing the “before” pictures when someone uncovers a barn find and we surely have a set of those in the advertisement for this 1964 Jaguar Mk. II. It’s listed for sale here on craigslist and has spent more than 20 years in a shed in Wildomar, California before being pulled out recently. The seller is looking for offers around $5,000 but hasn’t even opened the hood on the car yet. Thanks go to Michael for the tip!

It would be really nice to know the engine and transmission in this car. There were three different inline sixes, all from the XK series. 2.4, 3.4 and 3.8 liters, with the 3.8 being similar to but not exactly the same as the E-Type units. As far as the transmission goes, it could be a three-speed automatic, four-speed manual or a four-speed manual with electrically actuated overdrive.  Whew!

We’re told that the body is in primer. The fact that the tire shown is (I believe) a bias-ply means that this car has probably been off the road a lot longer than 20 years. I’m hoping the body is as solid as it looks and that it’s accumulated dirt behind the rear window.

I’m pretty sure this is dirt. It will be nice to see the car after it’s at least rinsed off.

Even though there are no pictures of it, the seller says it will need an entire interior. Even doing it yourself with a quality kit will easily exceed what you spend on buying the car in the first place. Given the bills that could result from the restoration of this Jaguar, I’m thinking the best chance it has is to hope for someone who is willing to do it as a labor of love. Any Barn Finds readers in love with Mark IIs?

Jesus, if you’re promising an eventual 50k, and are asking 5k, please clean it up and take some good pictures

I think I got a serious case of hantavirus just looking at the pictures. I wouldn’t take that thing for free unless he drags it out and steam cleans it much less pay a dime for it.

There was a decent driver Mk II which spent its entire life in California that recently sold for $8,500, another from Virginia sold for $14,000. He’s dreaming, he will be lucky to get a fraction of his asking price with this ad and these pictures. These are pretty cars that don’t seem to have much of a following.

Primer is not protecting but absorbing elements….

No engine shot or interior pics tells a real story of neglect and missing parts .

This is a 2 grand at best car…

To restore one just needs to drop 15 grand and get a good one.

Paint and interior , dash , bumper means signup for 25 grand or more and it’s not worth it as
sitting on ground could be damaged frame and floors or trunk.

    The engine may have a
rod through the side of block…
Jaguars are cool when taken care of👍👀👍

In this case “Jaguar Mk. II” equals “Money Pit” even more so than usual.

They aren’t ‘regularly’ pulling $30 -$40K as the seller insinuates…I’ve recently sold a very nicely done one and struggled to find a buyer in the mid $20K’s…Finally sold it at $20K….

    Good luck to this seller….

I admittedly love the look of the Mk 2s, but this guy’s dreaming.

A $5000.00 crap-shoot. We don’t even know for sure, if it has an engine. The seller isn’t helping himself any, leaving it looking like this.

Yes I’ll take only $500 for dragging that thing away for free. You’ve got to be kidding.

Looks like the seller has updated the listing with engine and interior photos, and reduced the price.

    Jamie,
Is that plug in the third photo the plug for the electrically actuated overdrive?
    Just kidding… Or am I?

Looks like he has opened the bonnet and there is a motor so that is something. and has dropped the price to $4000.

Not sure that is primer, and the seller may not be sure either. Sure looks like a pretty silver exterior with red leather interior Jag when new. He’d be wise to yank it out and wash it down. Also, four tires so it can be pushed onto a rollback. There is one spot on the back seat that looks like something rusted onto the seat surface and also punctured the leather. Shows the entire leather interior would have to be scrapped instead of carefully scrubbed and moisturized to perfection. Drop the price another couple thou…

The seller now has dropped the price to $4000, and has included pictures of the red leather interior and engine compartment. You can’t see the dash very well, but the odds are all the wood will need to be replaced and that is going to be very expensive. At least one of the fender-skirts is now sitting on the backseat, and hopefully the air-cleaner is in that pile of leaves being removed from around the car.

I have to agree with Jamie, this would have to be restored by someone who REALLY loves the MKII, but when done properly these are beautiful vehicles. My Father had a 1960 3.8 MKII, automatic with the “hill-holder”, black with a red interior and the steel disc wheels. This was the car I learned to drive in. Very smooth and powerful and it handled very well. It replaced a 1955 MKVII Sedan that was my Mother’s car. My Folks really loved their Jaguars!

    Just call me Jed Clampett.

But really every Jag before 1981 was a beautifull piece of junk.

There is a blue 1964 (3:4 I believe, uncertain) Mk 2 Jaguar, manual, very similar to this, awaiting to be uncaged, that I know of in Ontario,Canada. Right hand drive and same owner since 1971, known to me personally. Curiously the former British registration number is just one digit only, different from another 1964 Mk2 (an automatic) known to have survived and kept in Britain! The owner is about the to retire and has the means, skill and ability to get this Anglo-Canadian Jaguar back on the road. Fingers crossed !
