Silver Anniversary Present: 2006 Chevy Corvette

Many years ago, my aunt received a 1993 Mazda Miata M-Edition as an anniversary present. It had about 5,000 miles on the clock when she got it, and maybe 6,000 when she later sold it. To see this 2006 Chevrolet Corvette in a similar situation – bestowed upon a spouse for a similar reason – doesn’t surprise me at all, but it does make me question my own spousal generosity! This C6 Corvette has under 20,000 original miles and is a desirable 6-speed manual example. Find it here on craigslist for $24,995 and go here if the ad is archived.

The paint code is claimed to be a special order color called Monterrey Red, and the seller says it hasn’t been road-driven for the last four years except to get its annual inspection. Inside is a black leather interior, making for a fairly attractive (if not inoffensive) combination. The only modification is a Corsa exhaust, but given the beautiful sound they make, I’m not going to complain too loudly about that deviation from stock.

Props to the sellers for the makeshift three-car garage arrangement; I’ve actually been thinking of putting my ’87 325is on dollies and sliding it over as far as I can so as to make for a three-car arrangement come winter-time. The one off-putting part of the listing is the seller’s refusal to move it outside for more photos unless the car is sold. That’s a sales approach I don’t understand, as I imagine even with the pristine condition, a potential buyer may want to hear it start and idle along with at least bearing witness to how it runs out.

These haven’t quite matured to the level that I’d consider this a collector’s item, and the Z06 is the ultimate spec if you’re looking for an investment. But I can’t say this isn’t an appealing car both for its preserved condition and low mileage, which is getting harder to find as this generation of Corvette becomes a cheap used car now with its third or fourth owner. The price seems reasonable, but I’d want to knock a few dollars off if the seller refuses to allow inspections to occur outside of the corner of their garage.

I don’t think that the seller will find too many people that would drop almost 25 grand on this car without driving it first!

Sounds like a $18K at best car.

It sounds like he really doesn’t want to sell it. It’s as if he’s daring someone to buy it.

He needs to state if it is an LT1 or LT2 or LT3 so folks would know what equipment is on it. Wants too much if it is an LT1.

I bet it’s the base motor and that’s why he left it out. I’m surprised it’s a stick.

The ad says it has an LS2.

Let’s see: up on dollies, not really driven for over 4 years, won’t take it out till it’s sold – will the seller take a check? Might be a great car, then again it might be junk but you won’t know unless you put out the $$ first! Sorry, I’m not going to even consider something like that without a drive, a pre-purchase inspection by a qualified shop.
I’m guessing it’s got the original tires, which would need replacement. It’s likely hasn’t been serviced in those years so no telling what the condition of the fluids are. Without being driven these years the seals could be leaking like a sieve but who knows?
Sorry but without a more cooperative seller, this one is going to sit for a long time IMO.

Hello Dolly! I store my Corvette in the same manner to have a three-car garage. It takes a few minutes to push it out of the area in the spring.

You guys are sure brave by ‘stacking’ your garages. Stacking hangars are bad enough, but garage stories abound.

My neighbor’s wife was having a bad school-mom day and backed her white van through the closed garage door. After the door company fixed the door that day, she pulled into the bay and ‘tapped’ (shoved the Shovel through the front wall) her husband’s ’71 Superglide which was stacked in front of the van.

That same week, a flying buddy was moving the prop on his ’66 210 Cessna which kicked and nailed three feet of the bottom wing on his newly restored Waco UPF-7. Broken P-lead on the left mag was the secondary culprit.

I put a plastic glow-in-the-dark bat from Halloween on a string suspended from the ceiling to warn my wife to stop her car when the bat hits the windshield. She didn’t, hit my bench and my Shovel motor fell off the bench and onto the hood of the car. I’ll leave it at that.

Stacking them in the driveway isn’t any better. I had my 71 Corvette behind my wife’s VW and she backed into it. It didn’t hurt the Corvette, but it put a nice pointy dent in the back hatch of the VW. It’s a dangerous world.

Over 30 years of “stacking” with no issues. I must be really lucky or maybe it’s because “The Duchess” also drives the Corvettes.

Typical Corvette owner/seller – thinks it’s worth more than it is.

I should know. I am one.

Great cars, new or used, as far as value goes. And they just keep getting better with each passing year. The good news is that it’s old farts who buy them & never drive them. The bad news is that it’s old farts who buy them and never drive them – meaning they don’t get beat up too badly but they suffer from disuse.

At $25K that’s all the money for this car since there are literally hundreds if not thousands of this vintage with the low mileage option. The 6-speed is nice but my paddle-shifted 6-speed automatic pretty much does the same thing without the third pedal to trap my 11 EEE’s.

Hypnotically; Honey why don’t you sell that old car in the garage, it’s taking up space that I want to use for a pantry. “Sure thing I’ll just overprice it and not let anyone test drive beforehand. My dream car should be gone in no time”

My wife has said several times, “Why don’t you sell that old car in the garage?”

      It is NOT a Corvette.

I wish my old car looked like this one – i’d overprice it, too..

1994, was the first year that a Miata offered an M edition. My first NA Miata was a 1995 M with Merlot paint.

Not going to bring it out until sold. Seems reasonable. I’ll just write you a check that may or may not clear.

Honeeeey… What happened with that little uncomfortable car that you gave me and I drove once? because I don’t want it in our new home garage.

Yep, I used to store my Vette the same way. It took a little while to drive it into that position, but it worked out well. That is, until my wife drove the Blazer into the garage after a fresh snow storm and slid into it. It cracked the fiberglass around the rear wheel, To my surprise, Hagerty covered the repairs 100%, zero cost to me. Not bad for a $200 policy.
This one being on dollies would take less than 30 minutes to set free. This guy is unreasonable.
