Solid Dent Side Classic: 1979 Ford F-150 4×4

Listed here on eBay, this 1979 Ford F-150 Super Cab 4×4 offers the kind of rugged simplicity that made these “Dent Side” trucks legends. The seller describes it as a solid truck, equipped with the dependable 400-cubic-inch V8, a manual transmission, and a 4WD drivetrain, all ready to deliver that unmistakable old-school pickup experience.

According to the listing, this Ford runs cool, drives tight, and stops well. The cooling system is said to function properly, the fuel system and brakes are both “operating correctly,” and the steering is described as “nice and tight.” It’s not often you find a late-’70s pickup with everything mechanical in sync, but this one sounds like it’s been kept in good working order. The differential is also reported to be functioning correctly, suggesting the four-wheel-drive system is operational.

The truck rides on brand new 35-inch tires mounted on stock wheels with hubcaps, maintaining the original appearance while offering a bit of extra capability. The seller adds that the exhaust system has a dual-beat sound, and while they don’t go into detail about modifications, they make it clear that this truck sounds the part. There’s even mention of an upgraded sound system with two 10-inch subwoofers and a 600-watt amplifier, so the next owner can enjoy some serious bass while cruising.

The seller notes that this F-150 “will put a smile on your face every time you drive it,” and that’s probably not an exaggeration for anyone who appreciates a straightforward, analog driving experience. Despite its vintage, it’s described as a great-running, cool-running truck, and the seller encourages buyers to inspect it in person or reach out by phone for additional photos or videos.

Of course, as with any vehicle that’s more than four decades old, the listing reminds potential buyers to expect normal wear and tear, such as small dents, scratches, or paint flaws. The truck is being sold as-is, with the buyer assuming responsibility for any future repairs.

This 1979 F-150 Super Cab represents the final year of Ford’s sixth-generation pickup, one that remains highly collectible among truck enthusiasts for its bold lines and bulletproof mechanicals.

Would you keep this 400-powered 4×4 as-is or give it a fresh round of updates to make it your own?

I’m not a Ford guy but this one is clean with the 400 engine and I like the original rims with hubcaps.

The dent-side refers to the area that is grooved where the trim runs front to back 1973-1979 as opposed to the bump-side 1967-1972 where it hade a crease protruding down the side. Both were available with or without trim depending the level of trim per models Custom, Ranger, Ranger XLT, and later 70’s Lariat.
I believe you could also order the side trim separately.

some ford guy’s nomenclature 4 this gen’s p/u’n bronco. C the groove down the side? The ‘bump side’ (nxt earlier gen) was it’s predecessor.

I think its got a ‘super’ cab aahahahaa.
Oddly enuff this is close to my favorite looking vehicle, just the ‘step side’ (more ford stuff? like a cheb ‘bull nose’?). Yes, even w/all the beauty in some Italian ‘road art’ (strong second) I like the 6th gen F250, short-bed/step-side 4WD as one that catches my eye 1st. Who can account for ’taste’? fashion? appearance? Just the teller. (I’d have the 300/4.9L no matter the DT it came to me with. The 400 is the largest ‘square’ design motor, but I use off rd enuff to want the mil mi motor for i6 low rev grunt. Less chance of tire spin in the dirt).
