Some Assembly Required: 1974 Barracuda

Pile of parts

Current values may keep the most interesting Mopars just out of reach, but there are still some bargains out there if you are willing to get your hands dirty. This particular Plymouth obviously needs some reassembly work, but the $5,000 asking price does make it tempting. The 318 V8 is there, as well as the transmission and interior. You can take a closer look at the magnitude of this project here on eBay. A large truck will be needed to haul everything from Green Bay, Wisconsin back to your place, but the seller does claim that the car has been sitting in a garage for the last 30 years. They also state that it is “not some field rotted car”, but after looking at some of the photos I think I would take my chances with that field rotted car…

1974 Barracuda

Here’s a photo of the actual car. I can see why they didn’t use it for the main picture in their listing. It looks like a conglomeration of panels and most of them have rust. That’s too bad because the price got me excited. Now, I’m not saying that this still isn’t a good buy. It may very well may be a smart purchase for the right person, but for most of us it would financial ruin. Just getting this thing put back together is going to be a monumental task. If you are skilled with the welder and know how to spray, you might be able to take care of the body with minimal outlay, but if not, you will either be upside down or will never be able to complete the task. We would hate to see this relisted here in a year or two, so make sure you are ready before making the plunge!

Since it is a 318 car, and is already just a pile of odds, ends, and rust, there is no point in a restoration to original specs.

It might make a good candate to build Hemi clone.

Just a pile of Mopar parts with a stripped body shell with no fender tag. If your a Mopar guru and handy with the welder while getting it for 5K you could make a nice restomod out of it. JMO

No value and not desirable. Would make a good boat anchor.

Im a do it yourself kind of guy, but I think I would leave this for someone else. Too much work for a nothing car honestly. Yeah mopars are hot and cuda’s have a strong following but a 74 318 car with this much rust and in a million pieces and tags missing. Just dont see it.
