SS Clone 454! 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle Convertible

While this 1967 Chevelle Convertible is not what we would consider a “survivor” here at Barn Finds, the seller initially describes it as just that but goes on to call it a resto-mod clone SS, and maybe that’s more in line with what this beautiful Chevy is rather than isn’t.  The car began life as factory Chevelle Malibu, but has since gone through an extensive off-frame restoration and now presents itself as a Super Sport model.  The outcome is pretty convincing, and regardless of what came off the assembly line, this is certainly one beautifully restored mean machine that is sure to please the right buyer.  Located in Templeton, Massachusetts, it can be found here on eBay with the present bid at $50,120 and the reserve not yet reached.

We are given a 15-year history of the Chevelle, and the seller says that the original color was Bolero Red, the same color it was repainted during the restoration process.  The car is said to have always been in a climate-controlled garage for the last 15 years when it wasn’t being driven, and the seller describes the car as having been well cared for and pampered during that entire time, which is easy to believe given how good everything looks outside from every angle we can see.

The seller says the inside was completely done with all-new showroom correct replacement 1967 Chevelle SS red bucket seat interior and carpet, with a mint padded dashboard and a perfectly fitting new manual convertible top.  Some aftermarket gauges can be found inside to help keep track of what’s going on under the hood, and visibly it’s hard to find fault with the presentation of anything going on inside the cabin.  There’s also new wiring throughout the entire vehicle, and the car is said to not be in need of anything, and it runs and drives like a brand new car.

Although the car has a new GM 454 cubic inch ZZ crate motor, the previous owner wanted the engine compartment to look like the 375 horsepower 396 version, so he installed the correct original cast-iron exhaust manifolds and a Chevrolet aluminum intake with a stock air cleaner to give that impression.  Shifting duties are provided by a professionally built R4 automatic, with a built Moser rear end out back to handle all that power.  The drivetrain is stated to have less than 1000 miles since its recent installation.

Things underneath are looking really sweet as well, and the seller says that this Chevelle has a beautiful rust-free body and undercarriage, plus the car is also equipped with a new stainless steel exhaust system.  What are your thoughts on this 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle Convertible SS clone?  Any ballpark ideas on where the high bid may end up?

Almost at its max. It could top out at $55,000/$56,000 fair price for a driver.

They actually reproduce those now. Very cool! But the price isn’t, in my opinion

It looks well done, but one thing strikes me as funny: the radio antenna. I don’t know for sure as mine had a rear fender antenna but the location on this one just looks wrong. It does not appear to be in the oem location, though I could be wrong.

Nicely done! For the price of a new Camaro or Mustang, I’d much rather have this. All the right stuff except the automatic trans but that could be rectified easily. $52,077 RNM 2 days left. Probably couldn’t build this for less than $70k.
