Stored Since 1973! 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air 4-Door

Who wouldn’t love to find a 1955 Chevrolet in a barn! But what if it had (gasp!) 4-doors? Well, if this was my project, I’d be thrilled with it. Even with “two extra doors” this car appears to be a pretty solid project that is sure to make a new owner very happy. It can be found here on eBay with a current bid of just over $2,000. It has been in the same Skaneateles, New York family for nearly fifty years and doesn’t seem like it’s going to sell for a ton of money. Take a look at this one and see if this classic tri-five is a winner in your book.

While 4-door cars are not as desirable as 2-doors for some collectors, Tri-Five Chevy 4-doors are still very stylish. In fact, they are shorter than most 2-door Chevrolet Muscle cars of the late 1960s! Here you can see this one was pulled from the barn but hasn’t been washed yet. The fenders, rockers, and quarter panels look great on the passenger side. Hopefully, they look the same on the drivers.

There isn’t a lot of information in the ad, but the seller says the engine is a rebuilt 283 backed by a Muncie 4-speed that transfers power to the positraction rear end with 4.11 gears. There is no mention of how (or if) the car runs, but besides missing battery cables, it looks pretty complete in the photo. Overall, this looks like a pretty good project but again, there isn’t a lot to go on in the ad. What do you think of 4-door classics like this one?

Nice. My uncle had a 56 same color. V-8 and automatic drove it till 73.

Very cool. Not many detailed pics tho. 283 4 bbl 4 speed, sounds like a fun car to me!! Maybe clean up , do the mechanicals and drive with current paint! Good luck to the new owner. Great cruiser! Happy 4th!

These 4 doors have become a bit more valuable since the “4 door to 2 door” conversion has been around. Myself, I’d fix what it needs and drive it as is.

Seller ended the auction early because someone gave them $3,100 for it.

Three day auction. High bidder bid $3100 in last minute, but with a feedback of “2” it may or may not be a valid bid ;)

Having a family now, and having hauled around friends before, those 2 extra doors always seem to come in handy. If someone wants to look down their nose at a Classic because it’s a 4door, my only comment would be “your loss”!

I believe that it means the series of Chevys from 55 through 57.

Reminds of when cars sold in decent colors. Colors that made you feel good inside. Unlike today’s heap of death black, prozac gray, and the like that seem to proliferate the highways. Ending at $3100 seems a steal of a price even for a car that needs work. What a beauty this will be with a wash job and maybe a little polish.
