The concept of a “street van” is one that hasn’t seen a rebirth in modern culture like so many other trends that have come back to life. Taking a utilitarian vehicle and using it as a cruiser is one of the best things to come out of our national automotive culture, but sadly, there aren’t many new vans being sold and even fewer appearing with a wild paint scheme and low offset wheels like this 1991 Chevrolet G20 van shown here on eBay with a price of $17,995.
What’s fascinating about this G20 is that it’s a 1991 model. If you didn’t look at the build sheet or VIN tag, you might think this was a van produced in the late 70s. That’s how convincing the paint job, wheels decals, and stance are in making it the Chevy looked like it was born in 1972. The seller doesn’t recount any sort of history with this G20 in terms of how it went from mild to wild, but we’re sure the original builder enjoyed the lifestyle that went along with owning a street van.
The interior, however, hasn’t been converted into a shag-carpet-covered palace, with a pretty much standard cargo van cockpit (albeit a very clean one.) There’s plenty of room to create the custom couch and dining setup of your choice, along with adding some wall board and sound system to make this G20 into a mobile party palace. The good news is you won’t be stripping out old carpeting and funky window curtains that have been installed since 1970s.
The Chevy sports two very clean bucket seats and the listing notes that it is powered by a 305 small-block paired with a 3-speed Turbo Hydromatic. There are plenty of small flaws, including lots of paint chipping inside the door jambs, but overall this G20 presents very well for an unrestored truck. With porthole windows, perfect period-correct wheels, and a wild paint and decal scheme, this G20 is read to live out your more colorful van-life fantasies.
Make a cool work van you could put a co. logo on for around 5k.Definetly would catch peoples eyes.18k is too much imo. You’re paying big $ for some aluminum slots and an ugly imo paint job and some bubble side windows on what is otherwise a plain Jane Chevy van that’s 32 years old.
Built in ’91? It looks like a Penske rental van. That is one ugly paint scheme.
Van was originally yellow (like, fleet truck yellow) by the look of things. Clever how they slapped some stripes and mags on it to get more attention on the cheap. The price, however… yagottabekiddinme!
The Street Van was actually the name of Dodge’s attempt at a custom-looking factory model. That’s how hot custom vans were back in the day. It’s humorous to see the sticker slapped on a Chevy!
“Street Van” was a Dodge gimmick in the glory days of vanning. Whoever painted and decaled this van wasted their time unless the original paint was crap. Probably had a business name on the sides so had to cover that up. Basic cheap cargo van with no ac. Way over priced.
I bought an old radio station van, yanked out the desk, installed a bench seat that folded down, painted a stripe across the logos and had a cool and cheap ride for my high school years. I dig this van!!
It is sad that there are so many cynical jaded haters. A/C and most things that would make these people happy are the things you would immediately strip out to build what you want. Has anyone looked at a Yenko Camaro? You don’t get A/C, power anything, and someti.es even a radio, and yet they sell for far more than the sticker price of a loaded showroom model.
I like it. The interior is a blank canvas. All kinds of possibilities.
Bobby blows all his college savings on a van and tries to get the girl of his dreams. It’s a wild time with Bobby and his friends.
Probably at 50% off it “might” be worth it. But the price is absolutely crazy for a bare bones van. So it’s got a $200 set of junkyard wheels, wow. No matter how clean it is, just not priced right. As for now seeing custom vans anymore. The factories don’t produce anything worth putting time into and again they too are ridiculously overpriced. You can by a house cheaper than a bare bones van.
Looks 2B a nice Rust Free owld van, but the price is a tad stiff, wotts she got for a mill, which wudd allow the owner to command such a price??
I owned an 84 Chev/GMC Heavy 1/2 tonne van up untill 11yerrs ago, n it were my own work van, but whenever the weather up eer in Canada got a tad nasty, for the 1st couple of days I’d allways use my Van, instead of either my Civic Si, or my 07 Edge SUV, cos I didnt want the idiots, who drove like they’d never seen snow before hittin my newer vehicles.
Wish Id never ever sold my own van, but as Ive stated, thatuns a tad too much $$$$$!!
The interior doesn’t look very comfortable to be “a rockin'”, so feel free to knock.
I absolutely love these cool 70s style vans. The nice thing is this one doesn’t have a nasty interior you’d have to strip out. Clean slate, if you’re creative.
Price is pretty dear and I don’t think they will get it, bit either way, it’s cool
