“Believe it or not, this is our easy-to-own Chrysler Newport. 4275 pounds of very exciting automobile. You can’t buy this much car anywhere for less. The 1965 Chrysler is longer. Eighteen feet of comfort.” So says a brochure showing the beautiful new 1965 Chrysler Newport. This example is posted here on craigslist in San Mateo, California and they’re asking $8,500. Here is the original listing, and thanks to T.J. for the tip!
Beautiful it is, two doors, four doors, station wagon, convertible, whatever the body style, I think the fourth-generation Newport is one nice car. They were made from 1964 for the 1965 model year, until the end of 1968 and were based on the new C-body, which showed up in the Dodge Polara, 880, Monaco, Plymouth Fury, and, of course, the Chrysler 300, and New Yorker. Also, on the Town & Country wagon.
Beauty in California often comes with some underlying sun-related issues. The paint on the top surfaces is a bit thin, but that just means that there shouldn’t be any major rust issues as you’d find in a car from the upper Midwest or the Northeast part of the U.S., and the seller says that this one is wearing all-original paint. I’d rather have that than a cheesy quick repaint anyway.
A stunning interior waits for the new owner, only the third owner since this car rolled out of the showroom in 1965. We don’t know the timeline of this car, but the seller says that they purchased it from the original owner who was a “nice lady” and was sad to see her car go. I think that’s it, they don’t use commas in the first paragraph so maybe they’re saying that they’re sad to see it go and I sure would be. The back seat looks pretty nice other than some unfortunate tears on the seat bottom and the windlace needs work. The trunk looks great.
For a craigslist seller to include one photo is highly unusual, but this one provides two engine photos, nice work! This should be Chrysler’s 383-cu.in. OHV V8, which had 270 horsepower with a two-barrel carb. The seller says this one “starts and runs amazing” and the transmission has been rebuilt. Hagerty is at $7,700 for a #3 good-condition car, how much would you pay for this one?
Even at $10,000, this is a bargain in contrast to the junk being built.
1965 was a banner year for Chrysler. There wasn’t a bad design in the entire lineup.
Beautiful car. I’ve always loved original survivors. If only craigslist had kept the ad up. I would’ve loved to see more pics of the car. The more pics posted, the better.
Seller already removed the ad from Craigslist.
I know. It’s unfortunate. I know craigslist ads don’t last for very long before being removed.
The good ones go fast!
And this is a good one. I get it. 1965 is my favourite year for the Chrysler Newport.
Great looking Mopar… An honest car. I’m with you Scotty I’d leave with the paint like it is and enjoy it!
I love the overall styling of the 1965 Chrysler Newport. Whatever the body styling, I’d buy one if I had someone to share the experience.
Love that big sweeping arc of the speedometer. These are great cars for driving and riding. A friend had one in 1979-80. Loved that car.
When I was a kid my parents had a family friend with a black 65 Newport 4 door. This is one of my favorite Chrysler designs. This is just a solid nice old car. I’d just drive it and enjoy it. They’re only original once.
I agree.

Awesome pictures. Lovely car.
That’s great, thanks, onkel!
GONE – again!
I always liked the C bodied Mopars. Wifey had a ’65 Plymouth Fury III 4 door sedan, I had a ’66 Fury III 4 door hardtop. Only normal maintenance for both during ownership, each lasted over 100K miles before being sold (the ’66 went to a family member). A family friend had a ’67 Chrysler New Yorker 4 door hardtop 375 hp. which I rode in a few times. Great choice for long distance road trips if you could afford the gas bill.
Great write-up, Scotty !! In 1965 I was 14 years old, Dad was car shopping and I went with him to test drive one of these, and I REALLY wanted him to buy it. When I saw this listing I was immediately drawn to it ! He drove a ’65 Pontiac Catalina and bought it instead (really a GM guy at heart). That was a GREAT car, sold it 7 years later with over 100K miles on it. I think back, and you really had a LOT of good choices back then !!
If you see a faded sign by the side of the road that says
15 miles to the… Love Shack! Love Shack yeah
I’m headin’ down the Atlanta highway,
Lookin’ for the love getaway
Heading for the love getaway, love getaway,
I got me a car, it’s as big as a whale
And we’re headin’ on down
To the Love Shack
I got me a Chrysler, it seats about 20
So hurry up and bring your jukebox money!
The first thing that came to mind. Hahahaha!
WELL I GOT ME A CAR 🎵 It’s as big as a WHALE! 🎶 I got me a CHRYSLER 🎵 It seats about twenty 🎶 📻. Remember when in late 1960, Newport was introduced with base price of $2964.00. The 63 and 64 Chryslers were truly unique. 🤮 Unfortunately a wrong turn for Virgil Exner as he searched for a new direction after his
finned fantasies. For 65 they returned to a more traditional look. Sadly, there are no more Chryslers. Walter must be spinning in his grave.
Hey! This reminds me of my ’65 New Yorker!
Had a ’67 Newport 4dr which, on a lonely, straight, and mildly uphill road, I punched the pedal and felt it go into third at over ninety mph. One of my truly great riding and handling cars. This ’65 really catches the eye!
I had a 65 with a 413. Bought it in high school for $300, just needed a set of points. Could have sworn mine weighed 4,111
