Super Clean 4×4: 1987 Dodge Ram 1500 LE

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

This 1987 Dodge Ram 1500 LE pickup is described as a clean southern driver with only the smallest amounts of surface rust keeping it from being labeled 100 percent rust-free. The truck features a long bed with four-wheel drive and the bulletproof 318 V8 under the hood. The body does look to be in excellent shape and you have to love the powerful stance of the 4×4 models. The seller contends it was never used as a work truck and that the condition backs this up; he has also installed several new parts to improve its mechanical integrity. Find the Dodge here on eBay where bidding is at $8,801 with the reserve unmet.

The brown paint may not be the sexiest color you’ve ever seen but the finish is in excellent condition. The chrome bumpers still shine up nicely, as do the polished wheels. The bed gate decor strip looks a little tired, but that’s really the only cosmetic flaw I see. The long bed isn’t the preferred look for most truck enthusiasts, but it seems like almost every 4×4 model is spec’d this way. Mileage is listed as being 113,000 and the cosmetic condition certainly seems to back that up. The seller confirms that the four-wheel drive and lockout hubs both work as intended.

The 318 V8 really is one of those engines that’s hard to kill, so no exaggeration there on the seller’s part. The engine bay is nicely detailed and the blue-and-orange paintwork reminds me of Hemi-powered muscle cars from back in the day. Some of the repairs or part replacements carried out under the seller’s watch include the starter, starter relay, battery and cables, upgraded ignition, thermostat, billet water neck, idler arm, pitman arm, Borgeson steering shaft, brakes, wheels and tires, rubber door seals, valve cover gaskets, and more. As a result, the seller contends this is a turnkey truck.

The interior is in great shape as well, especially the lighter-colored dash plastics and seat fabric. If this had been used as a work truck is typically used, I doubt it would look nearly this nice inside. The seller adds that the bench seat, headliner, and dashboard are all in great shape, with no signs of damage on either of those surfaces. New Lloyds floor mats have been added which give the truck an upscale appearance inside, or at least better than most Dodge Rams from 1987. There’s little doubt in my mind that the Ram is worth more than the current bid, so hopefully, it clears the reserve soon.

Awesome looking truck! I remember when the Ram truck looked like this. I find it way more attractive than what’s being offered today. I would’ve bought one if I could get it with a Cummins Diesel engine.

You seen the price of diesel lately? The 318 is the perfect engine here.

They’re expensive as hell these days, but you could get a 12V Cummins in these trucks starting in 89. I’m not a fan of the 91 refreshed look of these 1st Gens, but I’d love to find a 89 or 90 with a Cummins in her.

I have a two-tone blue ’88 with a great interior, too. She runs great but I want her to look like this. That brown with tan looks sharp. Slowly getting there. I have too many projects to get as much done as I like.

It’s traveled about 1,400 miles a year since 2003, definitely not a daily driver..

Some of you would know Ellensburg,WA, then you know 7mile hill going East twords Yakima nasty drive most of the time,up and down across the desert flats desolate nothingness.
Think it was 1996 the year of the Hell Snowfall. My lady and I we’re running late for Christmas Dinner in Yakima at 7:pm its 9:pm “had horses and 3foot of snow already, taking care of them” on the road down from Cook canyon she is in the “Gas with canopy and Dogs im in the Diesel bringing back a Quadrunner on return”.
Longer story shorter- people in ditches, spinouts left&right going up that hill, Cops,towtrucks,18 wheelers parked, wrecked or sliding backwords looking for traction, was loonisy to say the least “Chrimas Eve”. So I got my girl on the CB,remember those, and told her its getting dicey ahead drop to 2nd gear “auto trans already in 4×4 mode”Get on my Azz and just fallow my leed,- she advised me of loosing traction in spots, I said coppy that,Baby Just be cool- No Sudden Anything and be Smooth, cakewalk in iceing, lol. Top of the hill, whiteout of snow y’all know that fealing, she stuck to me like glue “blinding me worse through my mirrors her headlights, but was fine I knew ware she was the whole way to Yakima. I counted 42 vehicles in some sort of dissaray 1state Bull spinout in the hills before Yakima and a wrecker having problems trying to haul a car down one hill and up another getting sideways,Insane no car worth my life!! Got to my Auntie’s about11:pm we we’re draind she got squirly a couple times,I sware I didn’t spin a wheel. Now I’d Drive either one same situation But I must say I’d pay more to be in the Cummins mammoth ,Quite a Story,One Hellofa Nite !! God Bless &Drive Sane.
