1964 Pontiac Grand Prix Survivor

Sometimes a car comes along that looks authentic. This is one of those cars. It is said to be an original 1964 Pontiac Grand Prix. It is located in Denver, Colorado and was originally purchased in Sheridan, Wyoming. The Grand Prix is listed here on Facebook Marketplace for $14,500. It has been listed for sale for 2 weeks with no takers so far. This car represents the first generation of the Grand Prix which was produced from 1962 to 1964.

The Grand Prix is powered by its original 389 cubic inch V8 engine which is fed through a Carter 4 barrel carburetor. Power increased by 3 horsepower for the 389 cubic inch V8 engine  in 1964 from 303 hp to 306 hp when equipped with hydromatic automatic transmission. Buyers could also opt for a three speed or 4 speed manual transmission. The 4 speed came with either a wide ratio M-20 or a close ratio M-21 Muncie transmission. The Grand Prix is said to start and run well. Some of the recent work done to the car includes a new gas tank, fuel pump, exhaust, brakes, shocks and alternator.

The interior is in better shape than the exterior. There is a crack in the dash and the interior is mostly original. The gauges include a factory speedometer and vacuum gauge. The Grand Prix is equipped with power windows, power driver seat and a power antenna. The seller has clear coated the exterior to preserve the patina. There is some rust in the trunk area. The seller believes that the car has not been in an accident put doesn’t really explain the larger primered rear quarter.

The seller states that they purchased the car from a car enthusiast that bought the Grand Prix from the original owner. That would make this car a three owner vehicle with about 90,000 miles. The exterior is white with a black “Morrokide” vinyl interior. There were 63,810 Grand Prix’s built in 1964 which was down from the prior year total of 73,959 units.

    This is cool looking. My parents had a friend that had one of these it was a 64 GP in deep dark blue. Auto on floor I kinda remember it was a big engine on the fender it read 421 . And it was fast. I was in the back seat with my brother and 2 cousins. It was fun. This one can be fun also. I would paint it the original color. And enjoy it. I would ask $12,000 for it.     “Patina” is B.S. This car needs a paint job. Period.
    Otherwise, a nice example of a 64, however, a low content car. One of the things about the early GPS was that there were a lot great features available.

      I personally prefer patina on an original paint survivor, it tells a story that is lost when it’s repainted. I’m not a real fan of the clear coat tho it looks unnatural. Much prefer the wax patina protector. You don’t always need lipstick and makeup to be beautiful.

    I love the Pontiac Grand Prix, and ’64 was a very good year for them, but this one smacks of “stay away” or you’ll be sorry with the mess you get yourself into. — Why so few photos of it? That speaks volumes. A little rust in the trunk – probably means; a lot of rust everywhere else. The exterior paint tells a story that this car is a hornet’s nest, because Pontiac’s all had some of the best exterior paint quality of any car of the 60’s. For the paint to get like this would mean this car has not had an easy life and was never cared for by however many people who have owned it. Beware!
