The title of this 1957 Chevrolet wagon may be a bit misleading. Can a car really be a survivor and a gasser? If you want to look for yourself, you’ll find one here on Craigslist, submitted by reader Jack M. No matter what your take on this is, this car has the potential to provide a lot of fun.
I really don’t think that this seller is trying to claim that this car is a real survivor. It’s likely that they are trying to communicate that it may have had some survivor qualities until it was heavily modified. The seller does claim, though, that the interior is all original. Would it be easier to count the parts that aren’t original or the ones that are? The 1957 Chevrolet certainly didn’t leave the factory with shoulder harnesses to keep the driver in the proper place, but it didn’t leave the factory with a tunnel ram and two four-barrel carbs either.
Small block Chevy, turbo 400 trans, and Ford 9 inch rear end are terms that come together more for racing, rather than Sunday cruises. This one has really been given the treatment, which includes traction bars, a Wieand tunnel ram intake, and a set of fat BFG tires out back. The seller claims that it’s been built for the strip or the street but it’d be interesting to know how well suited for the street it would be.
Clearly, this isn’t a survivor by definition. I’m curious to know what hides underneath the primed areas of the car. And why is only the left side of it presented? The seller does describe this as a project but leaves out what may need work. Like a lot of listings, this one seems to hide stuff that could only be seen in person. So, is the $12,500 asking price reasonable enough to take a look at this “survivor” gasser?
I’m surprised the seller didn’t throw in the words barn find, patina or rat rod too, all terms so over used that they are meaningless anymore. I would have at least shown all four sides and smart seller’s (who are few and far between) will also show the damaged or problem areas in detail so that potential buyers aren’t disappointed or turned off the first time they see the car in person. What is a Chevrolet straight front axle? From the very early 1930’s??
There are smart sellers and “smart fellers”.
Got that smart Fellers, ike–good one!!!
Cheers

Chevrolet straight axle, the only way would be from a truck.
I wish I was dropped off at soccer practice in this!!!!!!!
sweet ride!!!
That’s not an original interior either…
Yes it is just a heavily modified, unrestored 57. BUT, I WOULD call this car a survivor before all the other ”survivors” that have been repainted and engines redone, etc…
Looks like a lot of fun. First thing I would do is make it all one colour. Even if only primer red or black.
It’s a Gas Gas Gas !
I believe that the asking price is right for this one. Lots of speed parts for sure. Not my taste, but a crazy car.

You could tow a trailer with this…a really big trailer!
Drag car = beat to a pulp. For, if I was interested in it, I would remove all the speed parts and rebuild to stock. Of course, it would cost a lot of $$$. So, I’ll pass.
BTW, listing deleted by author. Tells me there were too many negative comments to suit him/her.
