Survivor Truck: 1988 Dodge D150 Prospector

On occasion, the surrounding environment that a vehicle is parked in is almost as distracting as the car itself. In this case, it’s a good thing, because the hangar that this sparkling clean 1988 Dodge D150 is parked in indicates to me that it belongs to someone who sweats the details. Look at the shine on that floor! As honest and true as this Dodge Prospector Package truck appears to be, I can’t help but be impressed by the storage arrangement. This D150 is nicely equipped as far as basic trucks go, but the strong cosmetics are what matters most here. Find it here on eBay in Ocala, FL with bids to $10,300 and the reserve unmet.

And here we learn that that the seller is a Piper man, with what appears to be an equally clean plane to go with his “Light Cream” survivor Dodge. Even though I am not a pilot, I sort of wish I could justify simply owning a plane so I could rent hangar space and just hang out with a few interesting cars, trucks, and a vintage plane, one that was presumably not airworthy. I’m sure major airports look down on that, but surely there’s an air strip in a rural area that wouldn’t mind having the tenant, regardless of whether he actually flew? In the case of this Dodge, you won’t necessarily be flying but you can certainly cruise at 75, according to the seller, with that reliable 318 under the hood.

Everything you need, nothing you don’t. A 3-speed automatic with overdrive, working heat and A/C, manual crank windows, and power steering make this a truck you can drive without much sacrifice (I didn’t see cruise control listed, however.) The Prospector Package was just a simple decor option, so no major changes here outside of the badges on the bed sides and some other minor trim adjustments. The steering wheel and dash show no discernible flaws, and the same goes for the cloth bench seat that also looks like it has seen infrequent use. The seller lists the mileage at 46,800, which seems believable.

We love seeing photos like this that show the undersides looking like brand new. No scale anywhere, or really any evidence of exposure to undesirable climate elements (yes, road salt). The stampings are still visible, too, which is always a good indication of low mileage. The strong bidding suggests that bidders like what they see, and why wouldn’t they? This Dodge D150 is as clean as a whistle. With around 170 horsepower, it will go down the road just fine, and with the legendary 318 under the hood, I don’t foresee much in the way of ongoing maintenance to budget for – just a clean truck that will pay for itself in short order.

Wow, that’s a clean truck, nothing special about it, just a really clean old truck.

Nice! Why are they always bland colors when in this condition?

Oddly enough though, I rarely see these in that *symphony of beige* color lol they’re almost always red, blue or grey.

It’s the colour of my first car, an ‘81!Plymouth. Beautiful truck but I’m shocked at over $10g it’s not met its reserve, and being a 2wd.
Goes to show, smart people value simple, non complicated and basic reliable vehicles versus computers on wheels.
This thing can’t be shut down at the whim of someone sending a signal over the air. No proprietary software that prohibits you from working on it, no data collecting computers, and requires no reprogramming after battery replacement. Not to mention no $1300 headlights or bulbs that require a dealer to change.

    so simple and sweet
reminds me of what a conservative farmer would drive. No show, all go, all be it somewhat slow. Can’t let the neighbor across the road know you had 80 bushel wheat last year and nearly 200 bushel corn

Buddy had a rig just like this when we were 19…not a prospector ⛏️ but it was an ex govt. 2wd, 318, Torq-flite. A joy was had fishtailing around into the snowbanks in the winter. Fun truck 318 just purred and drove great.

Beautiful truck! Absolutely a time capsule. A friend had an 83 exactly like this and I remember how the ride was smoother than many cars. I’m trying to raise a Barn Find survivor myself having a 13 month old ProMaster cargo van with 2,300 miles at 2 years old. She’s never seen snow ❄️ and only saw rain once, not by choice. Maybe after I’m gone it will be on here
