The Super Bee was Dodge’s answer to the Plymouth Road Runner, but lived in that car’s shadows for the four model years it was in production. Launched in 1968 on the Coronet B-body platform, the car only saw one redesign which came in 1971 when it was a low-priced version of the Charger. The seller provides limited details about this Super Bee, not even mentioning if it even runs. It appears to be an auto being flipped and is in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Available here on craigslist, this Mopar is offered for the asking price of $20,000. Our thanks to Barn Finder Mitchell G. for his latest tip!
Given the sales numbers that the Super Bee put up against the Road Runner, it looks as though Dodge didn’t try very hard to push the product in the hot muscle car market of the late 1960s. Less than 8,000 were built in its partial first year, 1968, then peaked in 1969 at 27,800 copies and then fell off a cliff in 1971 with just 5,000 units. So, it’s no wonder Dodge quit trying after that. The 1971 model year offered the widest choices of engines, from a 340 small-block to the big-block 383 and 440, and we understand a paltry 22 Hemi Super Bees were put together in ’71.
Not a huge effort is being made to sell this ’71 Super Bee. Just three photos and a couple of sentences. What we know is the car has 98,000 miles and comes with a 383 with a 4-speed and Pistol Grip shifter (is any of it original?). It once had factory air conditioning, but that hardware is now MIA. The front fenders are made of fiberglass (set up for racing at one time?) but the seller has metal ones to go with the car. What’s your take?
I think you’re onto something with this seller in the lack of any details or photos. IMHO they honestly doesn’t want to sell it.
They mention-A-replacement metal fender for the two FUBAR’ed front fenders, gaping rust holes in front/behind the back wheels (maybe why the fronts were replaced?) and around the back window; what little bit they show of the interior is a mess and the outside wasn’t washed anytime recently. Matching engine? One can work around that. Original paint? It needs to be redone anyway. Does it run and stop? I dunno, does it? Does the seller care if your interested? The only positive I see here is the clean title and it’s been said certain states don’t have titles on some vehicles before a date in the past.
Given the right circumstances this would be a great find and one I’d really enjoy getting back on the road but there are too many unanswered questions, too indifferent an attitude and too much money asked for it under those circumstances.
Price is way too high, looks like it needs a lot of work, especiallybeing an East Coast car. If you can get it for the right price, would be a cool driver
How do you know it’s too high? Have you looked at it in person? If it’s not rusty underneath, and it is numbers-matching, then the price is definitely not “too high”.
I love it when people just spout off with absolutely no knowledge of the market. For, if they did, they would know how rare this car is with a 4-speed and which, if it is solid underneath, looks to be in good condition. If it is a numbers-matching drivetrain, it is worth more than $20K all day long.
you should buy the car and flip it and make an easy profit!!
In this price range there’s many cool project cars, so i also think its a bit high for a east coast car.
this price is way to high considering the new owner will have to put in at least another $60 if they do most of the work themself s and then the time to get it done and if you send it to a reputable body shop your over $100,000, this car is worth $5000. # matching or not, not everyone is building a auction car, anyone who thinks this car is at a good price is exactly the reason why muscle cars are so over priced for the average guy/gal to buy and get into a driver, if you think this is a good price then buy the car!!
If it’s not rusty on the bottom and if it’s numbers matching, that’s a lot of if’s for 20k
Let’s see $20,000 for a Mopar and just 3 photos. No other information like fender tag. Oh wait it’s fiberglass fenders. But does have a right fender. No pictures of the front. No engine compartment photos!!This doesn’t feel right. Somebody is doing a or trying to do a quick flip!! 🐻🇺🇸
I love all the hate most of you have for Mopars. Obviously most of you have never owned one or you wouldnt be so quick to dimiss them. $20k might be a stretch but call the man and find out if he will come down. A big block four speed 71 car of any make is worth saving, if possible as they are the last of a era. Ive owned Vettes, B Body Mopes, A Body Mopes, Chevy p/u’s, Dodge p/u’s, Oldsmobiles, etc but I always come back to Mopar.
