T-Top 4 Speed: 1980 Chevrolet Z28

Who knows where Tillsonburg, Ontario is? Well, it is the home of this 1980 Chevrolet Camaro Z28. Tillsonburg is west of Buffalo and southwest of Toronto. This sharp Z28 Camaro was listed 2 days ago. It is equipped with a 4 speed transmission and T-Tops. The Camaro is listed here on Craigslist for $27,000.

The interior of this car is a camel or tan color. It appears to be in great condition. Under the hood, the AC compressor is missing but it appears to have had air conditioning from the factory. The Z28 is also optioned with power windows, T-Tops and aftermarket rear window louvers. If you want to hear tunes instead of the engine, the radio has been replaced with a Kenwood or Alpine aftermarket unit. The wheels have also been replaced but the seller states that he has the original wheels to go with the car.

This Camaro Z28 has been modified and shows a lot of chrome and aluminum finish under the hood. From the factory, it was fitted with a 350 cubic inch V8 engine backed by a 4 speed Borg Warner T-10 manual transmission. The 350 cubic inch V8 engine was the only engine option available in 1980 except in California where a 305 cubic inch V8 was mandatory. This LM1 5.7 liter engine produced a 190 horsepower and 280 lb ft of torque from the factory which was a 15 horsepower increase over the prior year due to the addition of air induction from the hood scoop. As most enthusiasts know, it doesn’t take much to modify a small block Chevrolet engine to get it to pump out considerable power and make it fun to drive.

Not much is said about the car in the description other than that it is a nice clean body and beautiful interior. I guess the buyer needs to call to see how it runs and what engine modifications have been installed. The seller will consider a trade for a C5 Corvette. The odometer reading is 105,000 km. Motor Trend said the 350 V8 powered Z28 was good for a mid 16 second quarter mile when equipped with a 4 speed transmission.

T-tops look like the dealer add variety which were terrible. No cowl induction air cleaner so no 15 HP increase.

Cowl induction alone wasn’t worth a 15 HP (SAE Net) gain, though Chevrolet was always coy about other engine differences – minor as they must have been. Also, per the photo this engine has been modified with aftermarket headers, intake manifold, etc. The listing is no longer posted on Craigslist, meaning we’ll never know what additional mods it may have had.

This car would be a blast to drive and flash around! I love that oh-so-1980s brown color. If only I had a boring o’l C5 Corvette to trade for it.
