Three Wing Cars and More! Mopar Barn Finds

The Internet may have taken some of the mystique away from the Dodge Charger Daytona and Plymouth Superbird wing cars, but they are still a sight to behold. Imagine finding three of them in one location! There’s no link to buy the cars but check out the video here on YouTube for the full story. Reader Larry D. submitted the tip on this Mopar honey hole.

This 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona features black stripes and a green interior. A 440 cid V8 powers the aerodynamic wonder, spinning a three-speed automatic transmission.

What might be mistaken for a nondescript “old Dart” is a 1968 Dodge Dart GTS, factory-equipped with the 383 cid V8 and a four-speed manual gearbox. This hot A-body was quite a giant killer in its day, and these cars enjoy a loyal pack of rabid fans today.

Not exactly turn-key, the Dart will need some serious work in the engine compartment. Mental note:  “Buy D-CON.”

This restored Daytona has only been sitting for “a few years,” according to the video. Also 440-powered, this black-interior Dodge honors its NASCAR roots with a four-speed manual transmission.

Some dust removal and this baby looks ready to rumble. Body-color in the engine compartment instead of black gives Mopar muscle cars a little more style than the black hole engine bays from Ford and GM.

This 1970 Dodge Charger R/T calls to mind the ’69 Charger from Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry. Hopefully, this one avoids dangerous railroad crossings and other temptations of fate.

The 1978 Dodge Lil’ Red Express showcases another example of a hot Dodge, in pickup truck form. A friend of a friend in high school had one and complained about the gas mileage; someone replied “If you could stay out of the four-barrels it would do a lot better.” Easier said than done! In a Car and Driver road test, the Lil’ Red Express laid down the fastest 0-100 times of any American vehicle in 1978, according to DodgeConnection. The third wing car was a black ’69 Charger Daytona with red stripe and red interior, but you only see the rear of it inside a trailer. Value aside, which is your favorite?

All of them for their looks and value and none of them to drive …
Would love to find a barn filled with these , i would clean them , get them running and driving and let the bids come in !
I would take and enjoy the money for gas to drive around the world while pulling our fiftwheel

Dart GTS. Wow. Needs lots of work, DESERVES lots of work. Only a 340 is better.

I agree John. Value the 383, enjoyment a 340. It is exciting to see these hidden icons are still out there. Hope they find a good home.

From an investment standpoint, for many of these cars, I’m afraid that ship has sailed

A friend of mine bought a 70 Superbird in mint condition in the 80’s for $1200….when he died his wife sold his Superbird and 70 Roadrunner convertible for $135k. My friend would drive the car to school occasionally. The ride home he would bury the 150 mph speedo with no trouble while hauling 4 people. Cool car.

ANY ONE of the Daytona . I begged my dad to buy one when I was like 10 or 11. He never bought one but we looked at them.
Obviously not knowing what they would bring in today’s market.

I hated that winged thing at the time. A friend had one & everytime U entered the parking lot U could see if he was in or not (I’d go the other way). BUT…I also hated the way (not sound) Jimi Hendrix playded the guitar – behind the back, on fire, etc.
    Not for me~

My first car was a 68 Dodge Dart GT, red with a vinyl roof. That beloved car saw a lot of action (hint hint, wink wink, nudge nudge) and made a lot of memories in the early 70’s. And if they were the same price, I’d be hard pressed as to whether I’d pick a Daytona or that Dart.
