Too Many Doors? 1960 Chevrolet Impala

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

During the 1957, 1958, and 1959 model years, Chevrolet’s cars used three designs. The “batwing” look of the 1959-1960 Chevies arrived in response to the successful “Forward Look” Chryslers of 1957. Changes were few in 1960 to tone down some of the styling excesses of 1959. This ’60 4-door sedan is the “high end” Impala which had been the top Bow-Tie offering since ’58. It has been treated to some bling but seems like a solid machine overall. From Colorado Springs, Colorado, this nifty cruiser is available here on craigslist for $12,000. Barn Finder Mike F. comes through once again!

The most noticeable changes to the Chevy Impala in 1960 was a cleaner grill and a return to triple taillights instead of the one-year-only “cat’s eye” rear peepers. You could buy a new Impala in almost every body style and 4-door sedans like this one were probably the best sellers (followed by the popular Sport Coupes). This Chevy wears two-tone white-over-light blue paint which may or may not be original. The interior has been redone in what looks like reproductions of factory fabric.

This Impala has a 283 cubic inch V8 that has an upgraded intake manifold and carburetor, suggesting a switch to a 4-barrel. The Chevy also has dual exhaust and a 2-speed Powerflide transmission will take care of the shifting for you. At 120,000 miles, we’d guess that both have been rebuilt, but the seller makes no such claim. Besides aftermarket rims, the tires and brakes are new.

We’re told the Chevy came with fender skirts, but we don’t see them now (maybe they don’t fit with the new wheels). You’ll need to replace the cracked windshield and hunt up some of the emblems we’re told are missing. This seems like an ample cruiser to show off at Cars & Coffee, assuming you don’t think it has too many doors to be cool.

I don’t mind the quad cab at all. No matter how many doors it has the guy in the lane next to you won’t be able to take his eyes off it while tooling along in his cookie cutter SUV.

I like it. The four door sedans get a bad rap IMHO. Fresh paint, rebuild everything, add a few upgrades and this would make a fun cruiser. I also think the $12k asking is a bit wishful. Maybe $9 or$10?

    I’d take it…but not for $12,000.00!

Lovely looking car. If only more pictures were posted. IMHO, there’s no such thing as too much car. I like to see as much car as possible. I’ve always loved the 1959-60 Chevy.

Getting sick of the “too many doors” statement that flows freely on this site..there was a reason for the doors..mainly family convenience or taking friends out and not having the inconvenience of having to get out, push the front seat back ahead, and hope they could wiggle their way in and plop down in the backseat. Look around today- everything is 4 doors…

Absolutely! I love 4 door cars, sedan, station wagon, etc. Whatever you use the car for is the decision of the car owner, family, business, etc.

Too many doors is a bunch of crap. Not a thing wrong with a 4-door car. Its not a sports car to have only two doors. Nice the way it is.

Nice car, and upgraded to an alternator as well. Maybe a dual master cylinder for safety.

$12k I don’t know I think it’s on the higher end I would put it on air ride and get rid of the wire wheels and go with white walls on a steel wheel with caps

I agree. Wire wheels are okay for cars like Cadillac. But for most cars, no thanks.

I believe the color may be Tasco Turquoise. That was a color option in 1960
