Triple White Six-Speed: 1998 Chevrolet Camaro SS

There are some cars that look like they were practically born in the neighborhood or community that they’re listed for sale in. This triple white 1998 Chevrolet Camaro SS convertible is such a car, as it resides in beautiful Pompano Beach, Florida, which would be slightly hilarious if not for the fact it’s actually listed for sale there. The Camaro is a rare six-speed manual example, and clearly, a triple-white color scheme is something you don’t see every day. The Camaro has just 41,000 miles on the clock, and presents incredibly well aside from some wear to the leather. Find the Camaro here on craigslist for $18,500.

The white top, white paint, and white leather interior may be too much for some, but trust me – it just works in Pompano Baach. I am certain there was a member of the retiree set who used this Camaro to beat the crowd to happy hour at the Golden Corral. And while they only put 41,000 miles on the clock, the signs of wear and tear are hard to miss. You can see the driver’s seat shows plenty of signs of age in multiple places, and the sun visor has begun to perish. None of this is particularly surprising for a convertible, especially one with a white leather interior – talk about a hard car to preserve. And while you can certainly live with these flaws, I’d use it as a point of negotiation.

The engine bay is clean and certainly looks like it belongs in a low mileage car. The 5.7L V8 is a tasty mill, but especially when paired with the six-speed manual gearbox.  This is not the most common setup, so the seller definitely has a rare specimen with the color combination along with the soft top and three pedals. The listing makes no mention of any recent fluid services or belt changes, but these are generally hearty engines that are easy to maintain. That said, you still want to see some evidence that it was proactively looked after, even with the low mileage. The seller claims it does “…run and drive like a brand new car.”

The triple-white scheme is not for everyone; in fact, I suspect that will be the hardest part about selling this Camaro. It is a hard-to-find combo, so a collector likely wouldn’t be inclined to swap out the top for a black one as that would destroy the originality. The buyer will definitely be someone who appreciates the all-white look, and it wouldn’t surprise me to see them paint the Z28-specific wheels to match. The interior is a let-down for a low-mileage car that otherwise presents well from the outside, and it will take a trip to the upholstery shop to correct some of those ills. Would you drive a Camaro in this blinding color scheme?

If I were to have those seats re upholstered, I would want the houndstooth inserts from the 97 Camaro anniversary car. That should break up the white just enough for me. Count me as one that prefers the 98 facelift to the 93-97 cars.

Had I not bought my newest Corvette, a 2000 convertible, 6-speed, I would want a hard look at this one. I agree with Bakyrdhero, the houndstooth would be right for this car.

When I was a junior in high school, there was a spectacular brunette classmate, who I admired. I remember one day she was just sitting in an equally stunning brand new triple white (with houndstooth) 1969 396 Camaro convert., fact. A/C, console automatic.

When I asked, she told me that her father had bought it for here for her birthday.

I wished her a happy birthday (but it seemed redundant).

Was this an aftermarket conversion or a factory made conversion?

Factory I’m sure. I don’t know why anyone would do a conversion when Camaros and Firebirds were readily available from GM.

There are more geriatric parts of Florida than Pompano Beach. It borders onto Ft. Lauderdale. Oh and that Camaro looks pretty sweet.

Bingo! T-56! And in a convertible no less. Awesome awesome car. If I didn’t already have a T top stick I’d be going after this one.

Finally, another Camaro of this generation with the white seats. I’ve mentioned it here before, my ’99 Red, T-Tops, 6 Speed Z/28 had the white seats.
Only one I’ve very seen or heard of, and loaded with everything, including a rear spoiler on top of the stock spoiler!

I should have kept that one.

I forgot to mention: the seats started showing that same type of wear very quickly. The white did not hold onto the leather very well.

Triple cocaine white, a Miami Special!

Honestly, I like it. Address the interior issues, and have the only one like it at any car show.
