Turnin’ Rust Found A Rare 1940 Chevrolet Dubl Duty!

The guys on the YouTube series Turnin’ Rust reached out to us about a recent find they made and boy is it a cool one! Lance Bush and his dad hunt down rusty gold (which they document on their channel) and they are huge fans of step vans, so when a friend gave him a tip on a super rare one, they just had to go take a look. What they found was something Lance hadn’t ever seen before, a 1940 Chevrolet Dubl Duty. It could very well be the only one left in the world! Honestly, I’ve never seen one quite like it either. You can watch this amazing find unfold here on YouTube.

The owner of this Van, Trent, has a massive collection of rusty old cars (about 3,000)! This Dubl Duty might be one of the more unique finds there, but it looks like there are some other really cool cars and apparently they are still finding and buying more. This looks like it would be a fun place to spend some time just walking around! A few minutes of the video is spent doing just that, so be sure to check out to see what else they find.

Back to the Dubl Duty! You can tell the minute that Lance sees this van that he has to have it. Can you blame him though? It might be rough, but you just don’t find ones like this often. As an added bonus, Trent happened to find an original sales brochure for the Van at an estate sale. Those few pieces of paper are a huge bonus for Lance, as they give him a good look at what this van was like new and proves that it isn’t someone’s custom creation.

Lance and his Dad have built some really cool vehicles, including some other sweet step vans, but they haven’t built a Dubl Duty before. Clearly, this is going to be a big project, but the hard to find parts seem to be present. Mechanically, this Van is essentially a Chevy truck so finding parts to get it running shouldn’t be too difficult. The body panels look unique, but it’s flat enough that making patch panels should be relatively simple. Finding trim parts might be a challenge though, so hopefully, Lance can figure something out for that grille!

I won’t give away too much more, so be sure to watch the video for the full story. I will say that I really can’t wait to see what they end up doing with this Van! I for one will be following along. If you’d like to get updates on this one, be sure to subscribe to Turnin’ Rust here. Special thanks to Lance for giving us an early look at this one. I also want to personally wish him and his dad good luck with this project!

Rare find but more rare is the 42 Pontiac next to with a chrome grill. Wish it was closer to me so I could see it. Nice finds.

It shares the grille trim with the ’40 Chevy pickups.

The worst rust on the van body that we can see is right above the upper ridge stamped onto the right side. Inconvenient for a stock “day one” resto or a restomodded panel, but that’s right where you’d cut the lower edge of the serving window if you wanted to work it as a food truck.

I tried real hard and the old rusty rig didn’t do a thing for me.

Interesting truck, I don’t believe I have ever seen one before. It will be interesting to see the result of the restoration.

    Restored to original?
    Or modded out?

I only saw these in pictures. This would be a great project but I would get insistent that this one get done the way it was when it made its first delivery…

The Dubl-duti grafted a Divco body onto a Chevy chassis.

Turnin’ Rust are the only guys I’d ever have do a truck for me. They are, without a doubt, the most honest and ethical guys in the business!
