Two For One! 1940 Buick Roadmaster + Parts Car

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

If you’ve been looking for a pre-war convertible project, this may be the perfect one for you. The convertible is a 1940 Buick Roadmaster and included in the sale is a 2-door coupe. They can be found here on eBay with a current bid just over $2,000, the reserve has not been met yet. The sale also comes with a bunch of parts described as both original and NOS (new old stock). Having a lot of spare parts when doing a restoration of this type of car is very valuable. Located in Boynton Beach, Florida, the cars are ready for a dedicated new owner.

The convertible has some pretty obvious issues and the seller says it needs a full restoration. If the goal of the new owner is to restore the convertible, the coupe should be able to supply the necessary sheet metal. The sale also includes an extra hood and rear fenders, which should help the cause.

The coupe looks like it’s in better overall shape than the convertible (at least sheet metal wise). Between the two cars and the extra parts, it looks like the new owner will be able to piece together a solid project. The frames are said to be solid and both cars have engines and transmissions. As you can see, the interiors are missing quite a bit of parts. The interior of the convertible looks more complete.

We’d like to know what you think about these cars. Based on the photos, do you think there’s enough to make one good car? How would you tackle this project?

I think that there is enough to make two good cars but I’d want the coupe not the vert. I’d sell the vert to help fund the coupe. Both arm great cars.

Agree that both cars deserve to be preserved. It’s kind of hard to see any NOS parts in the pictures. Perhaps the seller thinks “NOS” stands for “Not Original Stuff”?

I’m with Mark on the coupe being the preference (see photo for why), although the ragtop would be much more valuable.

Definitely redo the coup! That’s what I would do anyway because I am not a soft top guy! I like them both for the age factor, but I would do the coup!

I bought the coupe and resold it. The coupe was a nearly rust-free car, amazing shape. The engine was stuck, even after soaking the cylinders with trans fluid and acetone. I swapped a couple parts that were useful to the convertible project.

I used the convertible along with another that I had to make one good car. This convertible looked awful, but had never had a restoration attempted or had been disassembled. That meant it was very complete. Of the two extra rear fenders, one was NOS – cool. The deal came with lots of extra parts like plastic dash knobs, rechromed bumpers, ignition parts, etc.
