Two Owner Fox Body: 1990 Ford Mustang LX 5.0

Sometimes, you see a car come in and you have to write it up immediately. It’s just that good of a find, with all the right credentials to make it a short-lived listing on whichever platform it’s marketed on. While some might say if you’ve seen one Fox body, you’ve seen them all, it’s just too hard to ignore truly special examples when they materialize. In the case of this 1990 Ford Mustang LX 5.0, it is listed here on craigslist by just the second owner and looks like it has been cherished since new. The original paint still gleams, there’s loads of documentation, and not a modification in sight.

Thanks to Barn Finds reader Barney for the tip. The Mustang’s Fox body platform is one that continues to evolve in the market today. We’ve seen some sellers with low-mileage examples trying to get all the money for one, but they’ve not all been successful. When you see some cars sell quickly at strong prices and others linger, it makes you wonder if enthusiasts are still sorting out whether a particular model is destined for greatness. The Fox body has all sorts of credentials in its favor, but the appeal of the sleeper-like LX with the venerable 5.0L engine is hard to ignore.

This car isn’t necessarily the enthusiast’s spec with its automatic transmission, but it also likely helps explain why it hasn’t been modified. There were plenty of older couples buying a Mustang equipped this way simply because it was a pleasant cruiser with some extra power. How many of us have parents or grandparents who unwittingly bought a car later determined to be a sleeper simply because a salesman encouraged them to order a V8? This Mustang also appears to have had years of careful ownership with a minty interior and not even an aftermarket radio to distort the originality on display.

A California car since new, there’s zero rust to report and look at that gorgeous engine bay – no sign of a cheap cold air intake nor any obvious modifications of any kind. The Mustang with its LX-spec wheels and the 5.0L is a terrific combination, and in 1990, it made 225 horsepower and 300 lb.-ft. of torque. The seller reports that there are some tweaks, but they are so laughably minor that I can’t help but feel even more reassured at how stock this car remains. He mentions that the headlights have been updated (the originals likely had some haze), the radiator replaced, badges replaced, and some updated ignition components swapped in – that’s it. Buy it now and don’t flinch at the reasonable $12,900 asking price.

Nice little car at a decent price at okay miles. Seat looks like an easy stitching job. Agreed that the auto prolly kept the hoonigans to a minimum.

Where is the rear view mirror? Is that a panel problem behind the fuel door?

Wow! 150,000 mile Mustang looks like 50,000!! Nice to see people really take care of really good cars. The gas jockey got sloppy with the gas handle? That paint can be clean up ,it won’t be perfect but better than it looks now. And what happen to the rearview mirror? I can think of a few things ,but i will keep it clean here.😂 If this was a stick and look this good it would be gone!! The price is ok. I feel $10,000.00 would be spot on. I will the seller good luck. 🇺🇸🐻
