Unfinished Business: 1956 Chevy 210 Wagon

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

After a successful launch in 1955 of what would become known as the Tri-Five Chevies, the 1956 models were little changed other than taillights and turn signals. The 210 would continue as the mid-range offering, sandwiched between the 150 and Bel Air. That included the seller’s station wagon which other projects are preventing him/her from finishing this one-off. Located in Durango, Colorado, much of the work may be tied to the interior. It’s available here on craigslist for $14,000, Another cool tip from Barn Finder Gunter Kramer!

Chevy auto production remained strong in 1956 as sales racked up another 1.6 million units. Of those, the 210 accounted for 124,000 station wagons, with the majority being the lower scale Townsman. As the seller’s wagon looks to be a bit better trimmed, it could be the Beauville which saw just shy of 20,000 copies.

We’re told the seller bought this 210 as a project and some work has been done given the archival photos that are provided. It was once red all over but now is two-tone white and red. The seller says the paint is nice but not perfect, yet no rust seems to be lurking. Earlier work included powder-coating the frame, which explains in part why it looks good. The estimate is that about 75% of the work is done to get this Chevy back out of the road.

A rebuilt 350 cubic inch V8 is under the hood and a 700r automatic transmission with paperwork is also present, so this is not a numbers-matching project. It’s not running and we don’t know how close it is to performing. The 210 has power steering and front disc brakes, the latter was not available in 1956. New glass has been installed, but the interior is practically stripped to paint. There are custom upholstered seats waiting to be installed, but they don’t quite look right with the rest of the colors. Spare parts will accompany the sale.

I realize old wagons are now the rage, and these 210s are hard to find, but $14,000 for a ‘non-running’ example seems a bit steep.
