Unfinished Business: 1967 Chevrolet Caprice

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The Chevy Caprice was in its second full year in 1967 as a separate model, having been released in mid-1965 as an upscale version of the popular Impala. Its purpose was to battle with Ford’s new LTD, which was a gussied-up Galaxie 500 at first. The seller has a 2-door hardtop (with the formal roof to set it apart from the Impala, though that would change in ’68). This is a project car where some bodywork has been done, and its mechanical health is unstated. Located in Monaca, Pennsylvania, this Chevy is available here on craigslist for $6,000. A nod goes to Mitchell G. for this garage find tip!

One difference between the Impala and the Caprice was that the latter only came with a V8 engine. In this case, it’s a 283 cubic-inch edition, which was in its last year on the roster. It would be replaced in 1968 by the 307 V8. With an automatic transmission (2-speed Powerglide?), no reference is given as to whether the Chevy is matching numbers. The Caprice had a big sales year in ’67; out of 1.9 million Chevrolets built overall, the Caprice turned in 124,500 units (excluding station wagons branded separately).

We assume the original color of this Caprice was black, and the interior (which needs work) appears to be dark blue. 70,000 miles are on the odometer, but it could easily also be 170,000, depending on how long this Chevy has been dormant (the collective dust says it’s been a while). Both rear quarters have been repaired and have filler material, and some of the floorboards have had patches inlaid. According to the seller, the work was professionally done, and extra panels were provided to do more.

The seller also says the car has “so many new parts” but does not go into what they are. Do they go beyond the stuff needed to finish the bodywork? We assume the seller has either lost interest or has other irons in the fire, as it’s now time for someone else to finish restoring this Caprice. It has Pennsylvania antique license plates if that’s a selling feature.

I don’t see “repaired” quarter panels. I see lots of body filler covering lumpy metal and who knows what else.

Kek, I agree, why would you do that?

I’ve seen plug wire kits designed to be routed under/ behind the exhaust manifolds. That still doesn’t explain that mess WOW

I’m guessing these are the ‘universal’ wires, meant to be cut to length.
This seller isn’t even trying at all, just gotta wave at this one. Bye Bye!
