Projects are a funny thing. From raising a family to dealing with home construction, there are endless opportunities for them to get stalled in the garage. The seller of this 1973 Mercury Comet here on craigslist cites health issues as the reason for his unfinished business, and he’s looking for $2,800 or best offer for someone else to finish the job.
It appears some bodywork has been attempted, and the seller claims the car is partially disassembled. The interior also needs some work, but no photos are offered. The pinstriping is definitely a home-made decoration, and I’d lose it when the Comet is repainted. The V8 still turns by hand but is currently not running; this Comet is equipped with an automatic trans.
Don’t you wish this Comet looked like this one in this old advertisement here on eBay? White with red is one of my favorite combos, and those dog dish hubcaps look perfect. I don’t mind the mags on our craigslist car, either, but I also like the smaller bumper on the ’71 featured above. How would you restore this unfinished project in Sioux Falls?
Been a few Mavericks lately, nice to see a Comet. Not for $2800 though. Maybe $1500. Maybe.
The lazy seller should have posted more pics and then he might sell it.
I would view this Comet as a blank pallet to create whatever I would want it to be. I’d probably gravitate more toward a traffic-light legend with this car because in stock form it’s not really ever going to be worth much, but with a few cosmetic upgrades, wheels and tires, some engine tweaking, headers and flowmasters, and a 4-speed, It would be a load of fun to drive and a personal treasure for its owner . After all, isn’t that what many of us looking for? Claiming the joys of youth by having a cool ride just like we really would like to have had back in the day but couldn’t afford on a newsboy’s or delivery boy’s salary? We’re not gettin’ any younger, so stop dreamin’ and start drivin’! They’re not getting any cheaper!
