The more you explore this 1987 Toyota Land Cruiser, the better it gets. The FJ60 has been with the original owner until just recently, with a paper trail that confirms it as a one-owner vehicle. All records since new are included, along with the window sticker, and the seller notes it is the “holy grail” of FJ60-series Land Cruisers with under 100,000 miles and original paint. Find it here on eBay with a $36,500 Buy-It-Now.
The FJ60 is one of the last of the early model Land Cruisers that still pops up in condition like this. Not often, but more than once per year. This example is a nice change of pace color-wise, given most of them are more subdued tones like sand or gray. The seller notes it was just recently serviced as a local Toyota dealer and the technicians were blown away by the condition.
It’s not hard to see why. The body shows no visible signs of damage, other than some swirls in the paint. The cloth interior is incredibly clean and the simplicity of the cabin is one of the best features: manual transmission, crank windows, and straight-forward instrumentation. This is an SUV that is focused on its job of getting going when the going gets tough.
A 4.0L inline-six was the most common motor across the multiple markets the FJ60 was sold, and though hardly exotic, they were quite reliable when maintained. This Land Cruiser appears to have escaped a life off-road and instead been used for gentle commuting duties; while I detest seller hyperbole, this does look like one of the better ones we’ve seen. Bidding is over $20K and it will be interesting to see if the seller gets is Buy-It-Now number.
Damn, should have grabbed this one last year! I looked it over really good. Pretty flawless. This was Can $$$ also.
I have more pics of it also.
Awesome truck with a very desirable powertrain combo and a beautiful color. But dang, that price. I love it, but there’s no way I’d pay that much.
When I lived in Japan used to ride all over. Would see new Land Cruisers on farms that I wished they sold here. They had straight six gas or diesel motors, rubber floor mats, and crank windows. They were even more basic than this one and sold new up until just a few years ago.
Had a friend with one this same vintage. He drove that thing everywhere and finally got rid of it when the rust repairs needed rust repairs. Was always at the beach tossing something filled with salt water in the back.
Were these reliable? How well do they off road in stock trim? At the asking price I would expect five or six Toyota’s at that price totally absurd.
My buddy took his down the Mexico once a month for years. Only problems I remember were that the AC compressor went and rubber hoses and belts went. This was after a couple hundred thousand miles and lots of time on the beach.
Not a rock crawler. Too long and heavy. Good torque so can go many places.
Agree that the price seems high. Said that about Westy campers also. Thing is what can you buy new that is better?
Only one comment on the composing for the pictures!……….(personal preference) KEEP THE FRONT WHEELS TURNED STRAIGHT!……..same goes especially for two wheelers!

My uncle had one of these. These are indeed the last of the best. You look at all the raves, and the price that a 32 year old car will command, and you have to ask yourself why the manufacturers aren’t still making at least something comparable? Rubber floors, manual transmissions, crank-windows, 4WD, all those combinations are gone forever. Discouraging.
Man… how many times have I asked myself that question. The answer is because nobody would buy the new crap if the old style were being produced.
Not sure about the 2018 JL wrangler but the JK could be had with manual windows, a stick, non tinted windows, and removable carpet.
I dont think this vehicle would pass California smog inspection.
