Who doesn’t like an underdog? The 1987 Buick Grand National was a product of the Buick engineering team continually improving a really cool car. It all came together in the last year of production for this body style. This 1987 Buick Grand National is being sold here on eBay as is in its unrestored condition. The car is not perfect but it is nice and the seller shows the good and the bad. The car is located in Union Hall, Virginia and is currently bid to $25,700 but the reserve had not been met. There are 2 days remaining in the auction.
The original owned kept the car up to 1995 and put 87,000 miles on the car. The next owner kept the car garaged for 26 years and drove it sparingly. Form the pictures, the interior looks nice with no splits in the upholstery. The dash is cracked on one side. The car is equipped with tilt steering, power windows, power brakes, posi traction rear end and automatic transmission.
Every Buick Grand National in 1987 was equipped with a turbocharged and intercooled 3.8 liter V6 engine that was fuel injected. Buick rated the engine at 245 horsepower in 1987 and had 355 lb ft of torque from the factory. The seller acquired the car last year to replace his Grand National that was wrecked but this car is so original, he did not want to modify it. The undercarriage pictures do show some light surface rust on the bottom of the car.
This Buick Grand National is now showing 90,989 miles. It is equipped with the standard gauge cluster and no the digital cluster. I had a 1987 T-Type with a digital dash and changed it out for an aftermarket analog dash similar to the GNX. This car is not perfect and has plenty of flaws including faded paint is faded and some dings and dents. The seller has fixed the bumper filler and replaced the heater core. It could be a fund car if you like originality.
“Body style”. Nope.
My father had one in 87 with Recaro bucket seats. That was the only GN I saw with the Recaro seats in them. Now I wish he never sold it
Lear Siegler seats, similar to a Recaro were available in 84 and 84. The Lear’s were also leather, with matching rear seats. I’m not aware of any Recaro seats available from the factory. That didn’t stop owners from purchasing Recaro’s and having them reupholstered using the factory Pallex cloth, they looked awesome!
I don’t know why they make a big deal out of these cars,245 hp is no big thing save your money for something worth while and give it hell
These cars were very quick with 0-60 and 1/4 mile times around 5 and high 13 seconds respectively. They were the fastest domestic US car in their time and would easily compete with 396 Camaros and the like.
My 87 with nothing more than a larger turbo (small by today’s standards) a better downpipe, slightly larger injectors, and a couple minor small parts would run in the 11:90’s at 115 MPH all day on street tires. They are remarkable cars.
Had an 86 fully loaded $18.5 brand new, sold it in 1994 with 160k miles and it was still a fantastic car, in 86 the only production car faster was a model of a Porsche
Lots of electrical problems though and a paint job that looked like orange peel after a few years.
The tranny wasn’t that reliable , don’t know if they beefed it up in 87
