Up On Blocks Nine Years: 1975 Chevrolet Nova

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The fourth and final generation of the rear-wheel-drive Chevrolet Nova arrived in 1975. It would continue to sell well until 1979, when it was retired to be replaced by the all-new front-wheel-drive Citation. The seller’s 1975 coupe (not a hatchback) is a two-owner project that’s been up on blocks in the garage for the past nine years. It was running in 2016, but not since. Located in Boone, Iowa, this wayward Chevy is available here on craigslist for $3,500. Credit for this tip goes to stalwart Mitchell G.!

Although Chevy’s 1975-79 compact was a new car, it still had a “Nova” look about it. The car was old-school in its design, with a straight-six being the standard through the end of the line. That 250 cubic-inch engine was in demand because American drivers were still adjusting to higher gasoline prices, thanks to the 1973 OPEC oil embargo. V8 power was still on the table, and the VIN on this vehicle indicates there is (or was) a 350 CI “Turbo-Fire” under the hood.

This blue 2-door sedan was one of 142,500 built in 1975 (out of 273,000 overall units). It has been in the same family since new, first owned by the seller’s husband’s grandmother, then her hubby. It was parked for reasons unknown in 2016 at 82,000 miles. The seller refers to this as a “muscle car,” but the original sales slip is less optimistic (sure, it’s a 350, but it should be a 2-barrel with a TH-350 automatic tranny.

Time and conditions have led to a non-running Chevy in rough shape. Both rear quarter panels contain ample corrosion and should be replaced. The upholstery is past the point of no return, though some Walmart-like seat covers were installed long ago. The car is going to need a full restoration, and going for an SS clone would be more of a stretch than if this were a 1969-72 model.

Kinda break even after all the work it needs. On another note, that black, Mach 1 that was listed here is up to 25k… Head scratcher for me, another 10k and you can get one from a dealer that needs, nothing…

For cars like this maybe someone needs to start a new auction site:
    Bring-A-Tetanus-shot.

LOL. Oh I know but the offerings there tend to be a lot nicer….thankfully. Maybe a separate auction site for the stuff like this? May I suggest Rust-In-Pieces for the really rough ones> Or Ran-When-Parked for cars like this Nova? At least the seller here is thoughtfully selling it already in its coffin!

I think some of these guys are being a bit harsh. For the Rust Belt this honestly isn’t too bad (not too good either, but not too bad). Price is still wrong, as clean Novas of this generation aren’t that valuable, but it is a viable restoration project.
