Vandalized 1972 Plymouth Barracuda

1972 Plymouth Barracuda

We have featured some angry ex-wife handiwork before, but this one might take the cake. This beautiful Barracuda has a 340 under the hood and is claimed to only have 38k miles on it. If you look closely at the photos here on eBay though, you’ll notice that the windows have been busted out, seats slashed, and many of the panels dented. The seller just says that it was vandalized and doesn’t mention who did it. Someone was obviously a little ticked off at them though. Either way, I hope the next owner is able to get it fixed back up without offending anyone!

He must not want to sell it very badly, as he put a reserve on it.

Yikes! A spouse (if that is the culprit) has to be pretty dang furious to do something like this to their spouse’s vehicle. I’ve heard hell hath no fury like a wife scorned. Looks like she took the song by Carrie Underwood to heart and took a razor blade and Louisville Slugger to the husband’s car. Thank goodness though she did not touch the Husqvarna lawn tractor probably for the same reason she left the passenger side car alone. She could not get to it.

How much do you think they collected on the insurance? And then sell the car.

I guess that could be the case, he may not want to restore it because of the memories of what happened to it.

It wasn’t totalled because he states it comes with a clean title.

I would sure love to hear the full HONEST story on this car and the incident that caused all the damage. Even though it’s supposedly rust free I wouldn’t give over 15K as Mopars are expensive to restore.

Villagers, light your torches. We must band together and find the person that did this dastardly dead and burn them at the steak. Or, we could all get together for steaks…

In high school, my cousin used to date a girl from a white-trash family. Her brother owned a 1980s Monte Carlo with T-tops, and one time he owed some guys some money, so he smashed all the glass on his own car with a baseball bat and reported it as vandalism to his insurance, which paid him the money to pay off his debt. He told me this story himself, and seemed quite proud of his innovative financial solution. I’m sure he became one of Wall Street’s finest….

Chances are that a woman did not damage the car given that whomever damaged it knew enough to damage all the panels, and glass, to make sure that a full restoration would be needed to restore the car back to original specs. Women would not know enough to inflict this kind of damage in a strategic manner IMHO.

I disagree Bob. IF it was a women, and I am speculating here, She was close to him. Heard him talk about the costs of this and that on the resto and perhaps saw some receipts. Easy to figure out where to strike. She might have even helped with the build. Like the ad said, vandalized. Maybe done by someone he refused to go out with. I have a debt to pay to a guy who owns a collector Monte that wacked me from behind seven years ago. I cannot pull the trigger on his car, but somehow his day will come. As for now, I am heading to Ed’s for steak!

could it have been Col. Mustard in the Library with a gun? yeah story smells fishy. If the insurance company did in fact pay off, why does the seller still have the vehicle? Or did he keep a lesser amount and keep it to try and sell for difference between what insurance company paid and “appraised value”. In that case, most states would require the title to show insurance loss or salvage, pretty much diminishing any value the car would have.

I once had a co worker who was “hanging out” with a Lady other than his Wife. After he took his “Lady Friend”, instead of his Wife, to the company Christmas Party, (yes, we were allowed to call them Christmas parties and yes we actually had extremely nice ones waaaay back then) he came down to the hotel parking garage only to find his brand new Corvette convertible with every piece of fabric slashed, every section of fiberglass destroyed, and every piece of glass broken!! She did at least leave the tires alone so it could be towed to the junkyard easier! So, yes, I would easily believe that that amount of damage could have been done by an upset female!!!

A friend in high school had a ’68 Mustang 390 coupe, nice car. He also had a mad girlfriend who doused the exterior with gasoline and torched his Mustang.

Me and my ’69 Torino stayed far away after that.

I witnessed a car bashing by a jealous wife at work once.
The owner of the 1969 Plymouth GTX and I stood on a loading dock and watched his wife beat the car to pieces with a baseball bat. When I asked him if he was going to walk out there and stop her, his reply was “Not till she gets tired of swinging that Louisville Slugger” !!

If you look closely you can see a car painted Plum Crazy sitting next to it in the garage. Perhaps Plum Crazy got Plum Jealous?

Okay, now the story gets stranger.
I googled about the car, just to see if I could find more about the vandalism story, and I found this:
    http://www.cars-on-line.com/59168.html

Unfortunately, there is no date on the ad, but he WAS trying to sell it before it was vandalized. If anything, that points the finger towards vandalism for hire.

And again, for sale, this time with about 100 more miles and more pics before it got bashed. VIN is also included:

    http://www.2040-cars.com/plymouth/Barracuda/1972-plymouth-barracuda-38-145-original-miles-738002/

He used some of these same pics in his EBay ad, too.

That drivers door and fender damage looks more like a parking scrape. I wonder if someone faked the vandalism in an attempt to cover up this damage?
I bet a good PDR guy could fix most of the body damage? Replacing windows, taillights and seat covers would be pretty straightforward. Something is not adding up. Google angry wife car damage for some good examples.
