Vintage Gasser: 1951 Ford Prefect

1951 Ford Prefect Gasser

After not having much success trackng down information on the suspected Saab rally car, we stumbled upon this British Ford and we are hoping we can dig up more history this time. This 1951 Ford Prefect may not look like anything special at first, but upon closer inspection you will notice a few things that will make you take a second look. Find it for sale here on eBay out of Upland California with a buy it now price of $2,900.

1951 Ford Prefect Slicks

Here is the first hint that this is not your average antique car. But then again anyone can put some five spoke rims with slicks on a car. This alone does not make it anything special. We started to look a little closer and found a few more unexpected surprises.

1951 Ford Prefect Gasser Drilled

Holes drilled and lots of them. Look closely at the photos and you will find little holes everywhere. This was actually done on purpose to lighten things up. This was a common practice back in the day with race cars and even bicycles. Alfa Romeo even drilled out the inner body structures on the GTA before remounting the external aluminum panels. You would have to know what you were doing here to avoid weakening any important bracing.

1951 Ford Prefect Gasser Scoop

This vintage gasser is going to need a lot of work to get back on the drag strip, but the seller claims it was raced in Southern California during the 50s and 60s so it may be worth restoring. Does anyone here have any more information about this car’s past? We would love to hear more of its history and we would love even more to see it making passes with a flathead V8 under that hood scoop.

Hi I would think this was built in the 50s as the one built in the 40s did not have a
      boot lid
