Volkswagen Rabbit Graveyard

It’s always interesting to come across a stash of a particular car, and this collection is no exception. This is quite a collection of VW Rabbits, and you will find the collection listed for sale here on Craigslist. It is located in Rome, Georgia, and the vehicles have clean titles. Prices on the vehicles range from $750 up to $7,500. A big thanks must go to Barn Finder Ricky M for spotting this group for us.

This collection is a mix of Rabbit Pickups and cars. I’ve been going over the photos in the ad, and my best estimate is that there appears to be around 17 vehicles in the collection. There is some bad news with these cars. None come with engines or transmissions, some have rust issues, and many of them are missing other parts. There are some cars in the group that show some promise. This Pickup looks quite nice, and also fairly complete. Apart from needing an engine and transmission, it shows some promise.

This is another one that looks pretty decent. There are a few dings and marks on the body, but it generally presents quite well. Of course, it is hard to tell anything too conclusively without a personal inspection. With so many of them having no covers over the beds, it is hard to tell what damage any water that may be sitting in the bed has done to the vehicles.

This is quite a collection, and while some of the vehicles are very obviously cars that are only good for parts, there are some really promising examples there as well. To a certain extent, this presents an interesting opportunity. If you really want a VW Rabbit Pickup, there aren’t that many opportunities for you to look through a collection and be able to pick and choose the car that you want. Do we have any takers?

I love my air-cooled VW’s but have absolutely Zero interest in any VW that has antifreeze. I have no qualms with anyone that does though. To each their own as they say.

However… I do have interest in what appears to be a Caprice hearse in the first pic!!!!

I’m not a big tree hugger but these would make interesting EV conversions. Another possibility would be to Frankenstein a Prius drivetrain into one of the PU’s. I’m sure there’s a BF follower that could do it.

Reminds me of my father’s WHEAT penny collection. Worth more than a regular penny but hardly worth the time or effort to collect.

Well, write a check or whatever for $850.00 for two of the nicest ones and then decide what drivelines you want to install. The aftermarket is huge with many ideas and a variety of driveline ideas. I own a Japanese pickup, actually a very early Chrysler Mitsubishi, that has two other names that go with it, and I would not be without it. Small trucks are terrific for just about everything, they are economical to fix and operate, and will haul willingly whatever is on your mind provided that you are not hauling everything in the Balkans. For those of you in heavy seasonal weather: Buy 100 pounds of chicken feed in a bag, put it on the back of the box and call it traction control. I do it and my truck rides like a Buick.

Maestro1, That would be negative traction control on a front wheel drive Rabbit pick up.
I currently have a diesel Rabbit pick-up with no rust and a spare engine and gearbox. I always wanted one but did not know why. It runs great and close to 50 MPG on the highway. However, It takes almost 1/2 mile to get to 75 MPH. (normal highway speed here in northern Nevada)
I am thinking about selling it, but don’t have any idea where to price it. I have been watching Craigslist’s and Ebay’s adds all over the west and the prices are all over the board. (Yes, I know asking is not the same as getting.)
    Any advise out there?
