UPDATE – This GT sold for $4,815.
If you’re like us you’ve probably gotten to the home improvement store to get supplies for that weekend project the wife has been on you to finish for months, to only realize you took your small affordable sports car and don’t have room for power tools, more less lumber. Well, we think we’ve found the sports car to remedy any concern of that happening again. Here it is, the Jensen GT, one of the finest British shooting-brakes of the ’70s. This one can be found on eBay with 5 days remaining and the reserve unmet at $2000.
This Jensen might not be the biggest shooting-brake out there, but we are sure that if you slide the lumber all the way up to its solid burr walnut dashboard you should have plenty of space for a saw and a few other tools. But don’t count on hauling the kids in the back seat, unless they have really short legs. The back seat is really more of a bench then a good place to sit, but don’t tell the wife that.
You might not want to load too much weight into that hatch though, because this Jensen is powered by a Lotus 2 liter 4-cylinder engine. This Lotus 907 unit produces 140 hp and is strapped to a Getrag 5 speed gearbox. This engine is a truly capable unit and can hurl this shooting-brake down the road at close to 120 mph, but we don’t think it was ever intended to carry too much weight around.
There weren’t many Jensen GTs built, as Jensen was hurting financially after Donald Healey parted ways with the company. This GT is in really fantastic shape and is great example of the 500 or so GTs ever built. This one has a few things that need to be fixed though. The seats are in need of being reupholstered and the A/C system has been removed. We really do like these cars and hope the reserve isn’t set to high, as this car would make a great driver.
