Well Kept 1990 Dodge Ramcharger

Building an SUV from your full-sized pickup truck makes good sense, and this 1990 Dodge Ramcharger marks Mopar’s entry in that market. The Spokane, Washington rig comes for sale here on eBay, where at least 10 bidders have the 20th century 4×4’s value above $10,500. Shiny paint and a tidy undercarriage garner few complaints, and a welcome lack of modifications should appeal to purists. The V8 Ramcharger runs and drives “great,” according to the seller. The repainted ride accumulated nearly all its miles and history with the prior owner who bought the 4×4 new and clearly took care of it.

Interior wear matches the claimed 99,185 miles, though the seller graciously points out the five-digit odometer might have rolled over and the vehicle sells as TMU (True Mileage Unknown). Those door plastics have had it. That deterioration normally calls for replacement, though I’ve heard of some DIY tricks to refurbish them when new pieces are not available. Check out the power windows, though; that’s luxury! An automatic gearbox handles the shifting, and that floor shifter stirs the transfer case to select 2WD or 4WD modes. Be sure to scroll down in the listing to view dozens of pictures that well-document the truck’s current state.

Rear side glass rolls into the roof for a panoramic view of the passing trees and sky. Turbine wheels were the bee’s knees in the ’80s and early ’90s. The repaint in original colors dates back only “a few years,” and shines like new.

The optional top-dog 360 cid (5.9L) V8 gained throttle-body EFI in 1989 and makes 193 HP according to Wikipedia. Air conditioning mates with the other power options to deliver a modern luxury, unless your idea of luxury involves the vehicle taking over the steering when you’ve decided to glide into another lane on a deserted highway without activating your turn signal, or other modern “luxury” features that seem to encourage drivers to detach control and participate less in the driving process. Comparing a modern pickup-based SUV to this one would reveal few significant differences in the basic systems, although the newer trucks’ ABS and traction control help in extreme conditions. Would you daily drive this ’90 Dodge or retire it with an easy life of casual weekend cruising?

Holy cow that thing is in great shape. The paint has a shine that most old SUV’s lost after 10 years or so. If someone gets it for not a lot more than the current bid, they made out like a bandit.
Back in the late 80’s- early 90’s when I was in high school, a good friend had one, an earlier model but similar paint color and the 360. I can tell you from experience that these will get you through just about any off road situation you might find yourself in. We took that suv down some really hairy trails and it never even threatened to get stuck. It was also really good at plowing through old billboard signs that time forgot- let’s just say that my friend was practically fearless and would mow down and over anything on a dare, and his Ramcharger would just keep on truck in’! This one brings back some memories.

Beautiful rig, unless I missed something in the description, that grille is not correct for a 90 model, it is from a pre-86….however, rare to find one in this condition! NICE!

That’s the correct grill. The grill changed in 1991.

Bob is correct that is an older style grille. Also, the turbine wheels ended in 1988. Still a nice Ramcharger though.

Bob is actually correct, it’s not the right grille for a 90. A 90 should have the 86-90 crosshairs. This one is wearing the 81-85 eggcrate. It’s odd, because the eggcrate version is a lot harder to come by and not repoped by anyone. The front bumper is also a 81-85 version. Hmmmmmmm

Beautiful. That’s the first Ramcharger I’ve seen in years that wasn’t eat up by rust. The one I had used to wake us up at night rusting so bad. LOL

“though the seller graciously points out the five-digit odometer might have rolled over and the vehicle sells as TMU (True Mileage Unknown).” Not sure why the seller mentions a five digit odometer when the picture in the ad clearly shows a six digit.
Great looking truck though, wouldn’t mind parking it in my garage.

Some underneath pictures would be nice.

Really a beautiful truck. The only thing that stands out in the pictures is the wiring harness coming out of the drivers side firewall. Looks like kind of a non-factory rat’s nest?

Nice truck, I appreciate the seller’s honesty about the mileage.
It doesn’t look like it needs much of anything.

I like this vehicle very much. The paint looks like a really good uniform color.
And, he put it back the original colors.
What stands out the most to me is the seller’s honesty. He mentioned the fact that it was repainted and he was unsure of the milage?
A big majority of these older vehicles should be sold as TMU anyway.
The milage showing on this particular vehicle could easily pass go as being original.
    Just my oponion!

Definitely not the correct grill for a 1990….. I should know after owning 2 1984 a1986 and a 1990 Dodge Ram pickups.

Man that’s a great looking truck I love those stealing wheels. I don’t think I’m out on a limb to far to say for sure that the milage is correct even tho it’s a five wheel.

Yep. If you look closely, you can see that the headlights aren’t lining up in the center of the holes. It’s because each facelift for the 1st Gen used a different core support. The eggcrates ran 81-85, crosshairs 86-90, and then full chrome 91-93. The crosshair would have lasted through the rest of the run, but they redesigned to give extra room for an intercooler on the Cummin’s trucks which didn’t start till 89. The differences in the core supports is why folks can’t easy swap one face for another, which is a bummer for the eggcrate guys since no one remakes those grilles or headlight surrounds.
