Well Maintained 80s Muscle: 1987 Buick Grand National

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

This 1987 Buick Grand National looks slick on the black mesh wheels reminiscent of a GNX. The seller lists several major repairs that lend credence to his claims of this being a very well-maintained Grand National. Bidding is strong for this Grand National located in Florida, currently sitting at $25,000 with no reserve. The listing does indicate it has high miles – just over 167,000 – but it presents like a car with far lower miles. Find the Grand National here on eBay and located in Deltona.

A detail about collector and vintage cars that is surprisingly hard to come by these days are detailed service records, so we love seeing sellers that claim to have the background documentation in hand. The list of recent maintenance jobs is exactly what you want to see, so hopefully the seller has the physical records in hand. Recent work includes: rear main seal replaced; oil pan gasket replaced; full tune up with new plugs, fuel injectors, and valve cover gasket; fresh oil change; new serpentine belt; new brakes with fresh rotors, rear drums, and shoes. The always-damaged front and rear bumper fillers are in good shape.

The interior is in decent shape for the mileage, but you can tell this Buick has seen some use. The seats look a bit worn with faded upholstery and what looks like saggy bolsters. This isn’t a knock on the car or the seller; the seats just look like they belong in a car with this kind of mileage. The rest of the gallery photos show an extremely clean trunk compartment and what looks like a practically unused backseat. The carpets, floor mats, center console, and instrument cluster all appear to be in good cosmetic condition.

The turbocharged drivetrain was a monster back in the day and responded incredibly well to modifications. The Grand National was always rumored to be more powerful than the factory ratings suggested, and even more so for the GNX. The seller doesn’t mention any modifications but I suspect that’s some sort of aftermarket cold air induction system, but that’s hardly a deal-breaker. Collectors and enthusiasts alike love a well-maintained Grand National, and despite the higher miles, this example is pulling strong money thanks to its up-to-date maintenance and clean cosmetics.

This vehicle was wrecked! Yes I’d imagine a lot of work had been done! SALVAGE TITLE! I Would hope the bidders are looking at his listed Car Check report!

maybe it was stolen at one time. that could also be a reason for a salvaged title.

Wow Mark !!! You and I both probably spotted the dreaded “SALVAGE” word at the same time. No mention of this in his eBay description or the Barn Find comments above. Buyer Beware, eh?

A salvage title really doesn’t mean a whole lot if you’re planning on buying and driving the car. Of course, that’s provided the car was repaired to industry standards.

GM has again saved in the wrong place. They present such
a racer with such an antiquated dashboard and a bar speedo-
meter. It’s more in keeping with the grandparents car that the
Buick represents on the outside. It also proves that the
GNX is way overrated. If GM had built a real racer, they
would have adapted the exterior accordingly, so the
engine is just an upgrade. Black paint only doesn’t makes
    a Shelby-like car.

Clearly, you’ve never driven or owned a Grand National.

Black paint doesn’t have to make a Shelby-like car because the GN could speak for itself. Obviously a lot of people still like them because they are popular and had the power to back up it’s mean appearance. I wish I had $20 for every person that wanted to buy mine.

I need to do a Grand National swap into my 1977 Buick Skyhawk. It’s already got 5 lug wheels and a bigger rear end. Hmmm …….
