Wife Said To Clean Up: 30 Pickup Cabs!

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Those of you that follow my philosophy of “when mama’s happy, everyone’s happy” will understand why the seller of these 30 pickup cabs listed here on eBay lined them all up and listed them after being told to “clean up!” Thanks to Patrick S. for this rather unusual find! They are located in Lake Park, Minnesota despite being described as being “North Dakota” cabs.

The ad states that there are Ford cabs ranging from 1949 to 1952 and Chevrolet cabs from 1948 to 1959. Why there are only “a few beds” and “not many” fenders, I don’t know. You also have to wonder where the frames, engines and beds are. Nonetheless, the seller is willing to sell them in bulk and containerize them for you prior to shipping or pick up. Any creative suggestions what to do with them? Booths in a restaurant, perhaps? Very small apartments? Let’s see how creative Barn Finds readers can get–what would you do with 30 pickup cabs apart from putting them back together? Let us know in the comments!

Well, 1st of all, I never gave in to that “wife happy” baloney ( why I’ve been single for 20 years and will probably die alone) My motto was, “Hey, love me, love my truck cabs ( or whatever) don’t like it, hit the road” ( and take a truck cab with you,,,and she did, well, not the cab part) The guy has something for truck cabs. Not sure why just the cabs, and 30 of them. That means this guy MUST have dismantled at least 30 old pickups that couldn’t have been too bad. People in Minnesota do weird things( but doesn’t make them weird). Don’t believe me? Check out “The Zoo” at Brainerd Raceway. Probably more like the neighbors and he’s playing the upset wife card. That swanky house the councilman just bought behind them doesn’t want a junkyard in plain view. I think it was huge waste of older trucks, who wants just a cab? Maybe.

Your right about it being weird Howard. Maybe some of these fire trucks with open cabs that have been coming up could benefit from a cab being fabricated in while your reperposing said fire truck. I expect a lot of these are going to end up in the crusher

@canadainmarkseh: Years ago, my local Volunteer Fire Department did just that. They’d had a 1957 Mack open cab pumper for years, and it still gave faithful service. At some point, they located a roof from another Mack truck and rebuilt it into a more or less removable hardtop for the pumper. That truck now resides in the FASNY Museum of Firefighting in Hudson, New York.

I always read that as “if Mama’s miserable then by golly she’ll make sure you are too” rather than “Mama is so beloved that if she so much as gets a hangnail we shall all rend our garments”. But that’s just me. For the record, my own mother was not the first & would likely not have been comfortable with the second….

North Dakota doesn’t use road salt, which I interpret to mean mostly rust free cabs. Minnesota does use road salt, as does a lot of the east coast and mid-west, meaning lots of old trucks need rust repair. I just checked, Eckler’s is asking $8,299 for a new 1947-51 Chevy cab, with doors.

If this guy can get $2-3000 for a rust free cab, he’s going to look like a genius. I grew up in northeast Ohio, and watched my dad patch rust holes on his daily drivers his whole life. Once rust starts, I’ve never seen a way to stop it effectively, it always comes back. Better to go south or west and find rust free sheet metal, and save yourself a lot of labor and heartache and frustration. If this guy doesn’t have a deadline to clear his lot, I’ll say it again, I think he’s a genius.

He’s selling the cabs individually, where it shows “quantity available” the number is 1.

If you search his completed listing on eBay, he’s sold 35 vehicles over the last 90 days. It would be wise to know what you are getting before placing a bid.

Somewhere there’s a guy with 30 pickup boxes and somewhere else there’s another guy with 30 right front pickup fenders, and so on.

I sure would like to be the one to get these guys all together and introduce them but without telling ’em about the parts just to see what they did when they figured it out.

And then I’d like to have all their wives in the next room and do the same thing.

I have the a perfect answer to ,” what do you do with a truck cab”. I have seen it used in the fashion several times so I know it works and is a perfect final resting place for all these truck cabs. Along the fence boundary of my Mississippi farm the adjoining redneck neighbors has solved this problem of what to do with truck cabs.

They haul them up a large oak tree and suspend them about 15 feet in the air and use them as a deer hunting stands. They actually crawl thru the back opening , window gone and sit in the seat shooting out the side windows. They are chained to a large tree limb and will last for decades.

Not sure if a Chevy or Ford cab is best for this purpose. And during the summer the local Buzzards use them as nesting homes. So their is a duel purpose hunting stands and nesting Buzzards.

I’d build my own Easter Island tribute out of truck cabs, and enjoy my coffee in a different seat every day.

If he’s a pro, he’s already got something lined up to replace the cabs; detune the intensity of the hoard, and everyone is happy… not just momma.

…Or, how ’bout arranging them the same
way they layed out the Cadillac Ranch?
True, you wouldn’t get the attention the
“ranch” gets being a tourist stop, but at
least it just might save ’em from the crusher!!

I’d love to find a good COE cab. Slap it on a later model rv frame and you’re in business.
I’m just glad someone saved the cabs from the crusher.

Is there a website that lists what states use road salt, and for what years? I’m sure that would be very helpful to know! Especially for all of these barn finds.

    Cheers
