Wisconsin Barn Find! 1968 Mustang Fastback Roller

Ordinarily, a classic car listing featuring the words “Wisconsin” and “stored under a tarp” causes potential buyers to brace for the worst. However, this 1968 Mustang Fastback GT in Tomahawk, Wisconsin shows mostly solid metal and, though it needs attention from stem to stern, it shows great potential as well. Bidding here on eBay has surpassed $14,500, demonstrating the popularity of the original “Pony Car,” even one with no motor and a body peppered with dents.

Tip your hat to the seller who removed the carpet and body filler from previous repairs and included a host of well-taken pictures from above and below. A rear-mounted battery led to rust above the gas tank. Damage to the rear quarters and roof will require skilled repair or replacement.

An extensive color change to red obscures much of the original Lime Gold paint. While some interior parts remain, the car is likely destined to receive a complete interior kit.

The original J-code 302 cid V8 with a four-barrel motor has flown the coop, but the sale includes the car’s original four-speed transmission, drive shaft, and 9” rear end. Whether the new owner is driven by love or profit, restoring a ’60s Mustang fastback ranks among the classic car hobby’s most solid investments. Where do you think the bidding will end on this powerless Pony?

Already setup for a manual, if that’s what you want.

And judging from the roof, either someone went crazy with a dent puller or had a BB gun handy. Wow.

Looks like it has some pretty good bones, but needs a lot of cosmetic metal work especially around the windows. It’s already bid over what it is probably worth.

Went to a lot of trouble to make every inch red, then left the hood underneath!

And painted the strikers! That makes me crazy.

And what are those front wheels from? Look like Corvette to me!

    Great job with the pics!

It has a 1984-1986 Mark VII wheel up front, and an 88-89 Mark VII wheel on the rear.

Load all the pictures. In the pic from the front of the car, it looks like the roof is leaning to the passenger side. Suprised the windshield fits. It looks like it wrecked hard upsidedownie like, but there is good bones with terrible welds. The frame machine would be a must. Those front aprons are creased and booger welded too. Are they bent upward, left or right? I guess frame machine then metal work. May end up with a car that drives terrible with alignment issues. I dont think a tug on the frame machine would blow the budget. If you don’t care. Lipstick it up. Repower it, beat the snot out of it. It isnt special enough to pay to get it done, be upside down (again) in no time

The hood and VIN plate may have come from a car that was Lime Gold, but this car sure looks like it was originally red. Who removes carpets to change colours on the floorboards of a car that subsequently gets abused like this one was?

I don’t see 20k worth of value here. It’s a head scratcher what some people are willing to pay for this kind of hulk. It seems like a Dynacorn shell would be a better way to go in the long run especially considering the questionable condition as nrg8 points out!
