Workhorse: 1970 Ford Bronco 302

It seems like everyone with a first-generation Bronco is trying to capitalize on their skyrocketing values right now. This one from 1970 can be found here on eBay with a current bid of $6,150 and the reserve hasn’t been met yet. Apparently, even old snowplow machines are worth a pretty penny these days. This one is located in Buena Vista, Colorado, so you know it has seen its share of snow over the years. Hopefully, it will find a new home and a second lease on life. Have a look at this old workhorse.

You can see from the interior photos, this Bronco was probably 2214 Bright Yellow from the factory. Obviously, the interior needs a complete makeover. You can see a trio of aftermarket gauges under the dash and the aftermarket shifter poking up from the floor.

The engine is a 302 cubic inch V8 that has been treated to an aftermarket air cleaner and perhaps other doo-dads although the ad doesn’t mention anything. The ad does mention that it is in running and driving condition and you can tell from the photo that the engine has been maintained in running order.

This appears to be a shot from underneath the backside of the rocker panel. As you can see some of the metal is gone, but it isn’t completely gone. However, there are a bunch of sources for aftermarket patch panels and replacement parts. A little work with a cut-off tool and a welder will fix the bodywork.

As you can see the quarter panels have been trimmed which was a common modification on a large number of first-generation Broncos. If the rocker panels need to be replaced, you might as well put new quarters on it at the same time. It looks like the front fenders may need to be replaced as well. So overall, what do you think about this one?

I saw this listing a few days ago. He missed a great opportunity to sell it last month when several hundred of us Bronco enthusiasts descended on Buena Vista for the Bronco Super Celebration.

same yr as mine. Well, it took 3 or 4 to make it in ’83 (’66, ’77, ’75) but in better shape. $500 w/(a 500 dollar plow). Got 3 member crew, tools into bldg sites B4 drives went in, plowed sno during recessions, spent final 17 yrs skiddin logs up to neighbor’s band saw mill. Now will be rebuilt and retired to my 22 y/o daughter. I tend toward more rest0 than mod in preferences. The more bolt-ons the lower the price (is that not the way the mrkt wrks for other vehicles)?

I see another reference to the rear quarters being ‘trimmed’. Good that they were.
