You Gotta Want The Blues Bad: 1973 Ford Mustang

If you are interested in this big bad blue 1973 Ford Mustang, you’d better hurry because the auction is almost over here on eBay.  The buy it now price has been reduced to $4,900 and the sellers are willing to listen to whatever offers you send their way. It’s located in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

This is what will have you playing the blues (or at least feeling that way) after your purchase, unless you are sitting there with a lot of Mustang sheet metal and time on your hands. I’m surprised to see this much rust in a car from the South; perhaps it wasn’t always there.

The seller is good about disclosing the true state of the car in pictures. Honestly, I’d like to see the underside better but you still have an idea of where things stand.

Naturally, the interior needs a lot of work. So what exactly does big blue have going for it? It has a Q code 351C four barrel engine and it was also equipped with a four speed manual from the factory. Not only that, but the car came with air conditioning!

Although it doesn’t run, the engine does look fairly original and complete under the hood. So there you have it, a big blue project car that might be right for you if the price is right. What offer would the seller have to accept for it to be right for you?

They moved 134,867 of these in 1973, compared to 125,093 the previous year. Very likely because some buyers knew what was coming for 74 and were afraid of how it would turn out. They did get pretty big from 71 to 73.

Never cared for this body style, I liked the later 76 to 78 Mustang II’s over these, But If you could get this one for say $1500 for the motor and trans to put in a 69/70 with a blown engine and bad trans maybe then but not as it sits at that price. JMHO take it or leave it.

I bought a used 1974 Mustang II Mach 1 in 76′. Deep cranberry red paint with the silver” ghia ” interior. V-6 with a manual four speed transmission. Fun car to drive , fast not so much. A Triumph TR6 let me know that one night In 1971 when these Mustangs arrive at the dealerships I couldn’t believe they ventured this far from the 1970′ Mustangs. But after time I had grown to like them, but not as much as a 70′. The late John Delorean once wrote in his book that auto manufacturers would build cars and then advertise to the customer how much they needed this type of vehicle rather than doing market research to find what Americans wanted to buy

$4900 for a rusted out plain Jane Mustang? The seller would be wise to put down the pipe and head to rehab.

Plain Jane?? Hardly. It has a lot of good options. Mach I, Nice color combo, Q code, 4 speed, console, etc. Just look at the Marti report for all the options. Plus the other options the seller has that go with the car, power windows, power seat. Those are not easy to find parts.

About as good as it got, speedy wise, for Ford in ’73. They were 15 second cars stock, not bad really all considering.
The rear view mirror was for checking your rear seat passengers, no visibility at all! Only thing I never liked about these Mach 1’s.

      This isn’t a Mach 1.

Strange then, as it’s listed as a Mach 1 on the sellers add, looks like one. If it is a fake so be it, still a waste of a good Mustang.

The Marti report clearly states it’s a Mach 1….

That sign on the wall in the first pic is the only thing worth a dime in any of these pics.

Too bad. This will take a metric s..t ton of work. Been for sale awhile now. Fairly well optioned car. Blue/silver with white interior, stunning combo. 4V, 4 speed, as powerful as you could get back then. This was the last hurrah for ford Mustang performance. Had the same car in high school only with an auto. Love to have it but I found my high school car and need to convince the current owner to part with it.

If there was a market for the Mach I’s like this I would send them from Mexico to the US.

Here all the cars were 351 with manual 4 speeds. Also there was no smog equipment of any kind.

A friend of mine is building a 1973, I think, Mach I. It looks nice and all, but it is not really a car to drive all the time.

Mine was a ’71 Raven Black w/ Silver stripes, Boss 351 back in 78/79. Unfortunately it was stolen. This at a considerably less amount of money could make sort of a clone. Maybe? Meh

I thought it was the ’79, with JCW mirrors & grill, loss of frameless glass, & a roof high enough for an NBA player.

Iacocca: “The market didn’t walk away from the Mustang. We walked away from the Mustang”.

Perfect summary of the 71-73 models
