The seller of this Frost Pink and Castilian Gold Poly 1963 Mercury Monterey Breezeway two-door coupe has uploaded over 250 beautiful photos to their eBay link seen here. That’s amazing as sometimes a seller won’t even take the time to pop the hood and take a photo of the engine or crouch over and get a couple of underside photos. This car is located in Oakland, California, there is no reserve, and there the bid is up to $1,025.
I put too much mental effort into photos for online vehicle listings, I know that, but it really isn’t that hard to get some nice photos and I’m constantly amazed that most sellers don’t put any effort into it. The seller has really outdone most others on this one, not to mention that the car is fantastic, too.
Mercury Montereys were similar to Ford’s Galaxie in this era and the fifth-generation Monterey was made for model years 1961 through 1964. In 1963 as seen on the car for sale here, Mercury brought back the operable rear window which they called the Breezeway. Sadly, the seller says that this one isn’t functional but hopefully the next owner will get it working. One interesting thing is they say that the paint is all original, although the exterior isn’t perfect by any means. There is surface rust and some rust damage but for being almost six decades old, this car appears to be pretty solid.
The interior is partially nice-looking and rough-looking, sort of like me without the nice-looking part. You can see that the padded dash has been removed and the seller mentions that the headliner has been removed. An upholstery shop can take care of both of those things but it may not be cheap. The original seats look good both front and back, though.
The seller has provided a video here on YouTube showing a quick walkaround while this Monterey is idling and it sounds fantastic. They say that the engine is a Ford Thunderbird-sourced Z-Code 390 cubic-inch V8 and it’s backed up by a Cruise-O-Matic three-speed automatic. Both engine and transmission are said to function well. I’d fix that Breezeway window and just maintain this car as it looks now, how about you?

Lot’s of potential with this one. Z code 390, breezeway. Fomoco exhaust manifolds are restrictive. Get a good set of headers let the 390 breathe.

I used to own one. Finding parts for them are near impossible. I needed a trunk lock and could never find one.
I have recently seen one just like it is sitting on the street in NW Portland Or. Looks like I to take a look and get a good pic.
I remember the magazine ads that showed a bird sitting in the breezeway window getting out of a rainstorm. I always wanted one after that but could only imagine what could happen if a bird really did get loose inside the car.
Is it missing a breather cap for the oil fill?
